Johnny said " That's good, hey Gage why don't you ask her if she wants to join us tomorrow at the water park." Chet asked " You know that's a good idea, I'll ask her tonight if she wants to go she use to love the water slide. I know she has a doctors appointment in the morning but there's no reason she can't go afterwards." Johnny said " Well if she does call me and let me know because if she does want to go. I wont be there. She's terrified of me, and I don't want to be the cause of any problems." Stanley said " Capt don't give up the water park, If I see any signs of trouble Nicci and I will leave, It's that simple." Johnny said " Okay. If you're sure." .......The next day.... " Hey, Mr. Gage." Mrs. Patterson greeted with a smile swinging the door open. "Hi, Is Nicci in her room?" Johnny asked stepping past the house Mother " Yes she's in there." Mrs. Patterson said as her smile faded Johnny sencing there was something wrong by the look on Mrs. Pattersons face." Is there something wrong, How did her doctors appointment go." Johnny asked worriedly " No there's nothing wrong really, It's just that Nicci lost some more weight. She's down to 86 pounds now." " Man that's tiny." " It sure is, the doctor prescribed some medchine that is surpose to help with her appitite. We'll have to wait and see if it helps." Patterson explained " Well do you think it would be okay if I take her to the water park today? The guys that I work with will be there along with some of their families. We plan to spend the whole day there and have a picnic." " Yeah I think that'll be okay, Just make sure she takes her Meds and monitor what and how much she eats. Then I can chart it later. Johnny walked down the hall and knocked on Nicci's door." Hey Half Pint." Johnny announced turning the knob " Hi Johnny." Nicci greeted with a smile " Hey Nicci, I forgot to ask you last night but a bunch of us are going to the water park today, You interested?" Johnny asked. " Yeah it sounds like it might be fun." Nicci said sitting down on the bed starring down at the floor. " You sure, my Captain's going to be there. and I know you're scared of him, and we can leave if you have any trouble. But he really wants you to go." Johnny said taking a seat next to her Nicci looked up at Johnny " Yes he does scare me, but I need to face him. Johnny I dont' want to run scared anymore." She said " Are you sure?" Johnny asked " Hell no I'm not sure, he scares the shit out of me. But if I'm going to make it then I need to do this. Now just let me change into my swim suit and I'll be ready." Nicci said With those words Johnny put his arm around her leaning over he gave her a kiss on the cheek." " Nicci you have to understand he's not the man that hurt you, you know that. My Captain is a very nice guy and I trust him with my life. He knows why your scared of him and he understands." Nicci looked over at Johnny " You told him?" She asked " Not everything but Nicci he needed to know why you react differently to him then the others. Are you mad I told?" Johnny asked " No I'm not mad." ............ The guys watched Nicci as she approached them. Seeing her dressed in her bathing suit, They could tell she had lost weight." Man if she loses anymore weight she'll disappear." Chet said under his breath seeing that her arms resembled tooth picks. Fighting with the fear that was determined to win, Nicci stopped short and starred at the Captain. The guys knew she was frightened as they watched her tiny body start to tremble. Taking her in his arms " Nicci it's okay, he's not going to hurt you. You have to trust me and be strong. Not for me, but for yourself. If your ever going to do anything in your life you're going to have to face your fears head on." Johnny soothed. " Johnny do you ever get scared?" She asked " You bet I do, everytime I go into a burning building, we all get scared but we have to get over that fear and get the job done." Johnny said With those words Nicci cautiously approached the Captain. Then taking a deep breath and letting it out slow she raised her trembleing hand to the Captain." Hi Mr. Stanley." Nicci greeted in a whisper. Captain Stanley slowly exstended his hand to Nicci ." Hi Nicci." Stanley said softly being careful not to spook the terrified girl before him. Moving her hand closer, Nicci accepted Stanley's hand in hers. As they shook hands Stanley could feel every bone in her hand. " Hey Nicci, I want you to meet my family, this is my wife Joanne, this is Chris and Jenny." Roy introduced. Looking at Joanne, Johnny remembered the threat that Knuckles made about making her his bitch. He knew now that he had to tell Roy so that he could protect his wife. Johnny knew that Jo was safe as long as she was in a crowd so Johnny decided to wait to talk to Roy so that he wouldn't ruin the day. ........ It was soon lunch time and after they rode several rides the decided it was time for a rest. While waiting for the hamburgers to cook, Johnny sat at the table watching Nicci play on the play ground with Chris and Jenny.. Suddenly Johnny let out a laugh watching his Half Pint fall on her face as she staggered off the merry-go- round. Seeing she resembled one of the kids and hearing her laugh again was doing Johnny's heart a world of good." Junior I don't think you have to worry, by the look of things Nicci's going to be just fine." Roy said " Yeah, Now if she can only stop losing weight. She lost another five pounds, the doctor started her on a prescription that is surpose to help her get an appitite. Hopefully she'll start gaining." Johnny said his smile being replaced by worry .............. After eating Chet went around the table." Hey any of you chickens want to go on the Hell Raiser Roller Coaster with me?" " Count me out there's no way in hell I'm going on that thing." Marco said shaking his head " Oh come on." " Chet they don't call it Hell Raiser for nothing you know." Johnny said Hearing everyone turn Chet down Nicci spoke up." I'll go on it with you." " All right then come on lets leave these Chickens here we'll go by ourselves." Chet said as they ran to get in line. "She didn't do to bad." Joanne said picking up the half eaten plate of food that Nicci left " No I guess she didn't." Johmmy agreed Seeing Roy walking to the rest room Johnny decided it was a good time to talk to Roy" Hey Roy wait up we need to talk." Johnny said running up next to his partner. " Sure what's up?" Roy asked Walking into the restroom Johnny told Roy about Knuckles and his threat on Joanne. " Why didn't you say something sooner?" Roy asked " I didn't want you to worry besides, I thought Jo and the kids were safe at her sisters, but now that they're back." Johnny said " And he's the guy who gave you those black eyes." Roy concluded " Yes, he wants Nicci back and he knows that I got her. But Roy please don't tell anyone especially Nicci, There's no telling what she'd do if she found out. She may go back to him and that's the worst thing that could happen. She's come so far." " Don't worry I wont tell anyone." Roy concluded " Thanks." " No problem that's what friends are for."
