| Title: An Injury for Life By: Barb Rated: PG John Gage couldn�t help but let his mind wander as he drove toward The station * late again* it seemed that to him anyway, that he was always Running late and it was never his fault. Like today the lady up stairs had Locked herself out of her apartment, what was he to do leave her there all By herself with no one to help her, he couldn't do that to any one. OK! OK! So she was pretty, John couldn�t help, but smile at the thought of her as He drove. What was even better was that he managed to get a date out of it, for tomorrow night. Then as fast as the smile appeared it Disappeared. His mind switched to Captain Stanley giving him the 3rd degree and enough cleaning to make the shift seem to go on forever he would Is cleaning ever inch speck that capt. found? Cap had made a solemn promise to John that the next time he was late for work, he would have to clean the station from top to bottom, front to back. "ROY!!!" Bellowed Captain Stanley "Yeah Cap?" Roy answered the Captain but he knew what he wanted Roy haven't seen John arrive for work yet, and their shift started 10 Minutes ago. Lucky for Johnny. Dwyer was going to stay over until the missing Paramedic could be found. "Roy, where is that partner of yours, he late again?" Cap, didn�t Really expect him to know but he was getting mad. "Don't know, Cap I talked to him last night and every thing seemed to Be alright. " What Roy really wanted to do was to ask him why he always asks him where John was when he was late. He did not own the man just baby sat him or at least that is what it seemed like, or that what it felt like anyway most of the time. "Well this station is going to shine when he gets done with it� With that said the Captain stump off to his office. Roy wasn't sure but he thought he heard the Cap let out a little laugh. He wasn't sure if the Captain would take pleasure in Johnny being late. Cap was the only know who would know the answer to that question. John knew by looking out his window of the land rover and then look At his watch he was going to be at least 30 minutes late for work. If the Traffic kept moving like it was right now but he knew he better start praying With his luck today. His luck would not hold for what he couldn't see was the wreck that happen a little ways up the road there was a 3 car accident And the cars ahead of him were already starting to slow down to a crawl. "Just my luck has to go to work before I get to work� John said, As he pulled the Land Rover off to the side of the road. "Now the Cap is Really going to be mad at me but I have to stop �As he got as close as he could to the wreckage, parked the Rover and ran the rest of the way. He saw 3 cars involved in the accident, 2 of which weren't so bad, the other appeared to have bounced off the wall and looked real serious. There was a woman driving the first car she was alone, after checking To see that she was alive. John then began to check to see if there was any Other injuries to her other then the gash on her forehead. She seemed to be Alright but of course there was no way to tell if she had a neck or back Injury or even internal injury at this point. After making sure that her air way was clear and that some one was going Have to stay with her; many cars had stopped, to see if they could help. John went to the 2nd car, this car had a male about 45 years old, he was a wake "Sir can you hear me?� "Yes� he seemed to not be in any pain "My name is John and I'm a paramedic with LA County, do you hurt any were?" "No I�m just stuck that's all� as he pointed to his foot. "Okay let me see if I can get it free." He pulled the door open as much as he could and then reached for the stuck foot. After a few moments he got the foot loose from under the gas pedal. Then John told the man to stay put until some help arrived. If help arrived, he wondered if anybody had even called the fire department. He was sure that someone would have called them by now. He once again turned his mind back to the job at hand the 3rd and last car. This car was on the other side of the free way against the inside wall. John started toward the 3rd car when he heard that all too familiar sound it was the sound of a speeding car. John didn't take a moment to even think he dove as fast as he could to get out of the way of the fast approaching car. STATION 51 MULTI-CAR ACCIDENT ON THE SPARKY FREEWAY MILE MARKER 33 TIME OUT 08:45 HOURS "STATION 51 10-4 KMG-365" responded Captain Stanley. Roy and the rest of the crew climbed in to the vehicles and headed to the scene. Roy couldn't help but think that this wreck was the same way Johnny came to work he hope that he was just working the scene not part of the scene but with Johnny's luck, well lets not even go there he thought. What Roy didn't know was that Cap was also hoping that John was at the scene helping the people Cap had not told anyone but he had started to get a little worried about John. He was never this late without a least calling to tell him first so he had put a call into his apartment and when he got no answer he called John's landlady she was nice enough to feel him in on the lady and the lock door and she surprised to hear that he was not at work yet. He had told John's landlord that he would have John call her when he show up for work and that he was sorry to worry her like this. |
