More About Fruits Basket
-The Name-

The name Fruits Basket may sound weird since the plural word should be the basket. But the reason why the spelling is plural is because in Japanese, Fruit would be spelled Fu-ruu-tsu, hence the "s" will be added at the end.

There is a reason why this anime is entitled Fruits Basket. Fruits Basket is a children game where people will have to sit in a circle arranged seats but there is not enough seat for one person. When starting the game, every player will get the name of a fruit with two or more others getting the same name. The starter will stand in the center of the circle and call out any name of the fruits. Then, the players getting that name will have to exchange seats with others getting the same name. The one that lates to respond will then replace the starter to stand in the center of the circle.

In this anime, the main character, Tohru Honda, was always given the name "onigiri" (rice ball) during the game and so was never called upon. Her friends were just making fun of her. Even worse, she had never realized it but she was always happily waiting to be called upon. So the poor little Tohru would spent the game by just sitting there.

She was always rejected during her childhood and this condition continued for long even until she entered the high school. Due to her innocence and politeness, no one wanted to befriend with her. But this situation would soon be changed. She later got two best friends who really cares for her.
