Andore
Excerpted from "Rise of an Empire," by Esras Santorum, Advisor and Scribe to the Exalted Emperor, Pyramus Decius XVII. "Anadore: A Short History"
Anadore is, by any standard, the crown jewel in the Gallerian Empire, serving both by tradition and sublime placement as the ancient seat of the Gallerian Throne of Justice, from which our most Noble, most Exalted, most Learned, and most Excellent Emperors of the line of Pyramus Decius the Great have ruled the Empire through justice and wisdom for millennia long-shrouded in time.
A beautiful planet, blessed by a warm and temperate climate in a wide band around the Equator, Anadore from space is a wonder to behold.
Even the less-temperate poles rarely plunge below temperatures suitable for sustaining a mild, green, and lush vegetation, and the truly magnificent seas that dominate much of the surface never fall below a pleasant seventy-five standard degrees.
The seas, even from space, are of a remarkable hue and clarity, a cerulean blue that seems to evoke the very soul of the Goddess Ocenia, for who the largest of these seas, Oceania, is named.
Anadore has two seasons. The first, Solstitia, runs for six months of the lunar year and is generally considered the less pleasant of the two, as though Paradise itself can have a lesser abode. During Solstitia, temperatures can run as high as one hundred standard degrees, though most complaints-if any are indeed spoken aloud by a population so exquisitely blessed with such a clime-revolve around the considerable humidity along the extensive coast.
Medius is the other season, running through the remaining twelve months of the lunar year, and is considerably milder, with temperatures averaging seventy-five standard degrees.
Anadore, as has been stated, is a planet within the Gallerian Empire. The Empire itself is spread across the entire Gallerian system, a system of twelve planets orbiting a central star, Stalius.
Anadore is the sixth planet from Stalius, and this contributes to the agreeable atmosphere of the planet. The first two planets in the system, Malana and Ci, are uninhabitable. The third, Gallius, is largely a planet to be mined for resources, the principle of these being diamonds and other fine gems.
The prisons of the Gallerian Empire are also on Gallius, in the hopes that hard labor in the mines might inspire those miscreants that rebel against the perfect order to rethink their chosen professions.
The other planets are hardly worth mentioning in light of Anadore's supreme brilliance, and yet they contribute to a system of government, often referred to as the Republic of Galleria, that is known and lauded throughout the galaxies for its fairness, and the unique combination of representative government and Empirical power.
The Emperor presides over a Senate comprised of five hundred representatives, each democratically elected in cycles of five years on their home planet. To be eligible to be a Senator, one must have attained a certain rank within the more than four hundred major Houses throughout the Empire.
A larger Congress, comprised of one thousand representatives democratically elected in two-year cycles, serves to advise the Senate, and Congressionals may be chosen from any rank, caste, or house in the Empire, from the most humble farmer to the most exalted Patron of a major House. Power in Anadore flows from the Congressionals to the Senate and then to the Emperor, whose word becomes the law.
Anadore's universities and museums are respected throughout the Empire, and indeed the Galaxies, as prestitious repositories for the best and brightest minds of any given generation. They are open to all qualified applicants, and those who cannot afford the price, which admittedly reflects the quality of instruction to be found within those halls, often find Patrons and Matrons from the various Houses to fund their education. Indeed, it is exceedingly rare for a qualified candidate to be turned away on the basis of something so base and undignified as money, because those who receive grants from any given House invariably pledge to spend a certain number of years working within that House as repayment, a contribution far more noble and valuable than hard currency.
Those who wish to partake of a more comprehensive study of the customs and cultures of Anadore are invited to read my earlier work on the subject, "In Praise of Perfection: Anadore and the Heart of the Gallerian Empire."
