After taking several rolls of film between 9 and 10 am of folks in proximity of 7th and D Streets and along E Street between 7th and 12th Street I'd return home and watch the acitivities on TV until 2pm which was when the inaugural parade would depart from the US Capitol and head west ...
I actually began my documentation of the 2005 Presidential Inauguration on Sunday, 5 December 2004, when but has I have done since the 1993 Inauguration by photographing the construction process of the Presidential Inauguration Parade route beginning on 5 December with the first stages of the Presidential Stand located in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.  And then but as weeks would pass and often on Sunday afternoons I'd record the various construction and/or bleacher projects along Pennsylvania Avenue spanning the avenue from 16th to 4th Street which is where the parade route would end and/or began on J20.  Depending on your perspective.  And then the weekend before J20 which was MLK birthday and while capturing same-sex couples who participated in the annual Leather Weekend I'd also focus record various Inaugurual window displays including Burberry's at Connecticut Avenue and M Street as well as the old and new Architecural and Industrial photog along 11th, 9th and 7th Streets in close proximity to the old and new Convention Centers.

And while depicting the old and the new architecture and industrial scenarios along 7th Street as backldrops (some property which a friend once owned and/or perhaps still hold the mortgage to) I'd capture the various groups of barracades that had been placed along 7th Street in preparation of J20.  And in an area that I am relatively familiar with not only because I've been known to frequent the DC Eagle but for a short period of time during the 80's I owned or was buying a little house at 449 Ridge Street.

There are few places that I can go in WDC that I don't feel a strong connection to.  And, yet, as a 51 year old gay black man, and as I have discussed in my writings pertaining to gentrification what I
did not know at the time but am now forced to realize each time that whites who associated, accompanied, lived or slept with me at any of these places they were actually engaging in a process of 'negative reinforcement' whereby any connection that I may have had or attempted to establish with a particular community, company, institution or another individual would necessarily be associated with his/her right to do and/or deal drugs.  And each time that they'd associate me with drugs they'd not only 'negatively reinforce' me but would also dismantle something of value that belonged to me.  Including relationships with others that I may have had.

As I usually do on the eve of historic events on
