Leaving Sundance we continued east on I-90 into South Dakota. We got off the highway at Sturgis and drove through the town as a salute to all the bikers that have passed this way including my friends from Connecticut. Then back on I-90 and our destination, an RV park in Hermosa, some 20 miles south of Rapid City, SD and not far from Mount Rushmore.
Mount Rushmore is as amazing as you would expect. But, the next day went to the Crazy Horse Memorial, It honors the Lakota indian chief Tashunca-uitco more commonly known as Crazy Horse. The memorial is an unfinished mountain sculpture that seems to need a lot more funds to complete.
The following day we traveled the Needles Highway. Only 14 miles long, but narrow and winding and beautiful as the pictures below will show. Along the way we came across pretty Sylvan Lake, busy with picnicers and boaters. We stopped for an hour or more. While there Johanne met a women from Scranton (Johanne's hometown) and they had a good chat.

Our next siteseeing event was to The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD. The site was found in 1974 and is privately owned. Most of the work is done by interns, but is studied by scientists from around the world. So far more than 52 mammoths have been discovered as well as numerous other species.
