Ed & Johanne's
Notes from the road
The fourth of July was a relatively quiet day.  The campground had a hamburger, potato salad and bean lunch and also a cake to celebrate the 29th birthday of the Escapees RV Club.
The evening of The Fourth we were disappointed
with rain. That washed any thoughts of going to the fireworks.  However the rain stopped about 8:30 and to our amazement the fireworks were close enough that we could watch them from home.
.July 9th:  Well our most enjoyable stay in the Branson area came to an end. And eastbound we go.  Our first night we stopped at a very rural Ozark RV Park near Ellsinore, MO.  Well treed but lacking in customers. Our Passport rate was $6.00 plus tax for the night. That is the lowest rate we have ever paid!
The 39 acre campground is for sale.  Don't know what the price is but the infrastructure is in poor condition and would require considerable $$$ to put it in attractive condition.
One night here and off we go.........
July 10 & 11:  Leaving Missouri, then two minutes through the southern most tip of Illinois at Cairo crossing the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers and on into Kentucky and two nights at Kentucky Dam Village RV Park.
A long time ago someone had told me that I had to see the Kentucky State Parks because they have full hookups and are better than most private parks.  Well, that was not true of this State Park.  It was adequate but with a discount rate of $18 and no sewer hook up, close sites and NO ammenities, it was no big deal.  Even the big lake was not at the park but a distance away.  Oh Well!
Now for the sad story.  We were unable to explore
this part of the country as we had planned because the
PT Cruiser was now out of action.  The emergency
brake cable that is supposed to stop the car if it were to
detach from the RV did break away when it was NOT
supposed to.  A man in a pickup truck pulled up beside
me waving franticly.  I pulled over and found that the
brakes on the car were smoking  badly and Johanne even saw flames.
I ran to the RV and pulled one of the fire extinguishers and put out the fire.
I disconnected the auxillary brake and we continued our journey.
The day before leaving Kentucky I called a Chrysler dealer in Nashville and made an appointment for 2:00PM the following day to have the brakes checked.
We pulled into the Walmart next to the car dealer and disconnected  from the RV then drove it carefully next door and left it.  We continued the eight miles to the Nashville Country RV Park.  The next day I called to find out what was happening.  I was informed that the estimate was around $2800 and that the fire had caused a lot of  damage.  The service rep suggested I call my auto insurance (Geico) and see what they could do.  I did and they took the report (Friday, 13th) and today (Monday, 16th) the claims adjuster called and told me that he left a check with the Chrysler shop and that I would just have to pay my $500 deductable.  Yippee!
Still awaiting a call from the service department.  (to be continued)
MISSISSIPPI RIVER
OHIO RIVER
July 12th:   Our first night in the Nashville Country RV Park we went to a dinner and music held at the pavillion in the park.  Grilled chicken or sausage or pulled pork sandwiches with fixins and drinks.  Then there was the music. Two ageing song writers and performers alternated sessions for a total of two and a half hours.  They were both pretty good and we enjoyed their country and bluegrass songs.
July 14th:                                The Grand Ole Opry.
Johanne and I signed up for the shuttle from the RV park  to the 6:30 - 9:00PM  show at the Grand Ole Opry.
The shuttle driver, was funny and efficient, got us there and back home with stories and laffs.
At the show we saw many old time Opry Stars, Little Jimmie Dickens, Jim Ed Brown, Connie Smith, Jeannie Seely, Bill Anderson  and a number of newer ones.
