IMAGINATION
Back
For many years I have wished, prayed for magic to exist, to sprinkle on me like a mist. Sometimes I have gotten so desperate that I do silly rituals with rocks and made up rules that would make you think I was a girl most deeply engrossed in a culture with strange beliefs. My doubts are that magic has not yet hatched from its lonely, isolated shell. In these cases, we can rely only on our imagination. Even the most advanced alien species cannot define nor understand imagination. Creatures all over the universe have been pondering this unseen subject ever since it has shown its miraculous powers in our minds. We cant even put it in the right category. Its not a noun or an adjective. Its just a working thing that exists. Is it a spirit? A hallucination within our simple minds compared to this? Is it a thing that has never been discovered that blows around the human race? Imagination is more unexplainable and unpredictable than a black hole at the center of our galaxy. Only one thing is certain: this is truly and purely a phenomenon. Sometimes at twilight we wish for a happy dream. Our wish usually does not come true. A dream is created by a misunderstanding or confused brain, or is it? Dreams can be something else, another story. Another possibility is from imagination. Imagination and dreams could be inside of our heads and owned by the mind. It could be shared by the world and whisks through each individual creature. It could be another living thing that likes playing tricks on us. No matter what it is, we cannot control it. Dreams come and go at random. Sometimes they give us nightmares and sometimes wonderful mental experiences. Sometimes they insult people and sometimes give us bright ideas. But we always marvel at the apparent magic that they work us through. Different people have different beliefs. Believing is agreeing with something that you have no proof of. There is no right or wrong answer. Some people believe so strongly that they fight others over elements of their religion. No one should win. When it comes to beliefs, I have to admit, humans are pretty weird. I dont have a religion. My preference is Mother Nature and magic. Now believing in magic is even wackier than having a pet rock. How can you believe in something common people have proved over and over to not have existed? Imagination. I love it when I imagine fairies and sea monsters and fantasy creatures of my mind. I like to show my imagination and happiness by drawing them out on pieces of paper, but the drawings dont give me the same leaping inspiration and hope I get from my head. Nothing is the same. Nothing is perfect, but imagination is the closest thing I can register to perfection. I wish I could fly. It is a very common theme in my imagination every day. On rare but fabulous occasions my dreams reward me with the feeling and image of myself flying, and I can control every turn, every height, everything. I just wish it were true. The phrase "what if" is used by kids. Most adults have been faced with reality for too long. They are no longer associated with the great powers of imagining. They can use glimpses of it now and then, but that is all. Poor adults have gone and emptied their precious, priceless limited bottle of controllable imagination. Some get worse than that and start to crumple the already empty bottle and no longer approve of ifs, ands, or buts. Lucky children have the chance to love their imagination and use it while they preserve it for a life where anything is possible. For now, just be sure to sleep tight with your spiritual blanket of imagination. I assure you, imagination will be capable enough to survive the major catastrophes of the universe and live another day to accompany whatever wondrous alien race that comes after the era of mankind.
