This chapter predicts the final stage of the current worldwide "liberal" system. The global economy and culture has taken away the importance of individual countries and their political leaders. Instead an international aristocracy of bankers and top executives rule our world behind the scenes. Their greed has no limit. In industrialized countries they force workers' wages to be cut by taking advantage of lower standards and elsewhere. They can also dictate cuts in social services spending and taxes, because the threat of unemployment always looms over workers and national governments, whose top officials are on their briberoll anyway. Their success in increasing profits and top salaries makes them blind for the fact that they are destroying the system they depend on.
Our worldwide system of Parliaments and Capitalism was invented in Britain. This is why Britain and London symbolize our era in Biblical predictions. The British Empire seems to have disappeared. In reality however it has only reformed and merged with its American offspring. London is still a headquarter of the "International Community", the Anglo-American World Empire controlled by banks and big business. Britain can traditionally rely on the Freemasons and the Red Cross to form a kind of international old boys network to promote her interests and ideology in a way which is similar to the secret dealings of the CIA in the 1960s.
In Chapter 17 the prophet has a vision of a woman, the "Whore Babylon", sitting on a beast, which is the Beast out of the Sea from chapter 13, the heraldic Lion of Britain, the British Empire and the current Jewish Anglo-American World Empire of Banks and multinational companies. The woman represents a political power ruling the Seas. From the heraldic point of view and in the context with other chapters, this can only be Britannia.
This does not mean that the Bibel or my interpretation are anti-British. As the country of its origin Britain here symbolizes the culture and political system of the whole world, which means the "Whore Babylon" includes every country in our age.
Since the time of Margaret Thatcher Britain together with her American offspring has once again assumed a leading role in history: by re-establishing a low-wage low-tax class society Britain attracted jobs from the rest of Europe and became a tax-haven for foreign capital. Other industrialized countries were forced to follow in this international quest for the lowest wages and taxes. Along with the average standard of living public services are deteriorating and businesses are hit by lack of demand. Deteriorating health services facilitate epidemics, underfunded schools fail to educate and become a breeding ground for crime while profiteering ruins agriculture and the environment. Everywhere the same story: Ruthless greed destroys the foundation of our culture. Thatcherism, Liberalism and "Globalisation" have formed a second Empire of the Lion and are accomplishing "God's secret plan" as predicted in this chapter.
Traditionally the "Great Prostitute" was understood to symbolize ancient Rome or the Catholic Church and recently, according to Jehova's witnesses, today's false religion. The first explanation is obviously wrong dating the "end-times", while the two other interpretations overestimate the importance of churches and religion for human history.
The "Great Prostitute", the "Whore Babylon" is our end-time "Western Civilization", which has adopted the culture and ideology as well as the political, social and economic system from the country of the Woman sitting on a Beast.
