This chapter contains most of the hints to give Britain a crucial role as the place of predicted events. The first part of this chapter about the "Beast out of the Sea" can best be understood as predicting the heraldic Lion of England. As predicted this Lion has a body like a leopard and feet like a bear. There are similar heraldic lions in many other parts of Europe, which shows an ancient common tradition dating back to the Normans and possibly to the immigration of Jewish refugees during many wars in Palestine some 2000 to 3000 years ago.
However the Revelation predicted a lion symbolizing a worldwide empire and the only lion to fit this description has been the Lion of England. As predicted in verse 3 the whole world has copied the political and economic system of Britain, which means this chapter also predicts world history.
Certainly the British ideology of unrestricted greed known as "Liberalism" contradicts the teachings of Jesus, but we should not use the term "Antichrist" in this context. It is only mentioned twice in the Bible (1. John 2:18 and 22), not in the Book of Revelation, and means any ideology opposed to the teachings of Jesus but not a particular country, empire or person. Furthermore, according to the description in this chapter, the "Beast out of the Sea" clearly looks like an animal, while the so-called "Antichrist" is supposed to be a person.
