Lil Guppies Logo

Lil' Guppies Logo

This logo for the Lil’ Guppies Scuba School strives to epitomize the business’s ability to teach children to swim in a fun and safe manner. This is depicted through the logo by the inclusion of the submarine and the fish created through the negative space in the “o”. The submarine represents the safety but does so in a whimsical manner. The fish are reminiscent of the school’s name and both the fish and submarine are representation of objects that move through the water, such as a child swims.

Lil Guppies Letterhead

Lil' Guppies Letterhead

In designing a series of print materials for the Lil’ Guppies Scuba School, the letterhead had to remain consistent with the logo I created. I did this by drawing inspiration from elements within the logo itself. I paired the font utilized within the logo with an easy to read sans serif font. To separate the necessary elements within the letterhead, I used the fish from the negative space within the “o” as bullet points. To create a composition compatible with the logo, I drew the colors from the submarine to further enhance the interest in this asset.

Lil Guppies Envelope

Lil' Guppies Envelope

Within the branding materials required by Lil’ Guppies Scuba School was the inclusion of a personalized envelope return label. The creation of this envelope includes the logo, and the sans serif font typeface and color present within the letterhead. Making these elements match ensures that the print materials remain consistent and develop a strong brand for the business.

Lil Guppies Business Card

Lil' Guppies Business Card

The business card is an essential part of developing a business’s brand. For Lil’ Guppies Scuba School, I created a business card that both represented the values held by the school, but also provided enough interest that it will be memorable. Taking aspects from the letterhead and envelope, the business card presents the most prevalent information and places it within a presentation box upon a sea of blue. The representation of both the brand and water, through the use of the alternating blue colors, will create a connection between swimming and the school in a potential client’s mind.

Javabeen Commercial

Java Been Commercial

This commercial for Java Been was my first experience in both filming and editing in Premiere Pro. The coffee shop desired a commercial that would embody their focus upon a creative and friendly atmosphere. Java Been valued the artistic community that surrounded their business and wanted to show their appreciation through the development of an atmosphere conducive to a creative mind. The commercial seeks to showcase that atmosphere and create interest in the local community.

Town Table Tent

Town Table Tent

Looking to expand upon their brand, Town was motivated to create personalized print materials to expose both current and potential clients to their brand. One of TOWN’s fundamental values is the unique experience that their meals provide. I illustrated this value through the use of an image that represent the high quality that one would expect at TOWN and reinforced this quality through the use of text that informs the viewer of the quality and service that they will receive. .

Town Menu

Town Menu

To remain consistent with their new branding materials, TOWN desired to have a unique menu that would adequately inform their clients of their options and exhibit the quality that they would respect. This menu was designed in accordance with the brand’s style guide to ensure a strong and stable brand. As the experience played such a large role in the restaurant, centering the menu around which experience someone wished to have gave a clear way to organize the structure of the menu.

Town Brochure Outside

Town Brochure: Outside

For an easy way for attract potential clients, or as an effortless way for repeat customers to recall their experience, it was crucial that the brochure would consist of every benefit that TOWN had to offer. The outside of this brochure introduces the viewer to TOWN and provides them with a reference of what they may experience if they wished to visit. The back of the brochure provides more information, such as the phone number, address, and web address so that they may pursue further information.

Town Brochure Inside

Town Brochure: Inside

While it was the outside of the brochure that would draw in the client and provide them with basic information about location, it is up to the inside of the brochure to provide them with the motivation for actually making a visit. This is completed through the inclusion of a simplified menu, images of the quality food, and additional information that reflects the values TOWN holds. It is through the brochure’s interesting composition and the information that it provides, that the viewer will gain the motivation to step into the restaurant.

Town Webpage

Town Webpage

Building upon the previous print materials, TOWN wished to produce a webpage to further engage with online clients. The page needed to exemplify the amenities that TOWN had to offer as well as provide information in a intuitive manner. The webpage had to stand out and provide customers with the opportunity to further connect with TOWN. In the design of the page, I focused upon providing the viewer with a frustration free experience that would peak their interest in the experience that TOWN would provide.

GC3 Logo

GC3 Logo

GC3 required a logo that would aid them in developing their brand and strengthen their memorability. As a group devoted to empowering teenage girls, I created a representation of a confident young woman nestled above the brand’s tagline. In accordance with the brands color scheme, I utilized the brightness of the pink color to draw attention to both the girl and the tagline, while the gray provided intrigue in the contrast. The thick stroke in the brand’s name informs the viewer of the strong foundation that they wish to develop in teenage girls, and the script font and bright colors of the tagline promote the lively times that the company provides.

Article Layout

Are the Planets Inhabited? Article Layout

For this article, the goal was to create an interesting composition utilizing the text as artwork rather than simply just words upon the page. The elements within the page create intrigue, but the text is still composed in a manner that makes it easy to read and legible. To further the interest within the text itself, I took the opportunity to incorporate the title and author within the artwork instead of just in conjunction with. Making the text a piece of the artwork itself provides a connection between the text and art in the viewer’s mind.

Typographical Poster

Typographical Poster

This typographical poster represents the legendary Alfred Hitchcock through his movie titles and quotes that he had uttered. To best represent the figure, the font was carefully selected. I wanted to find a font that would best illustrate Hitchcock's passions. For this reason, I selected a font that carried both a jarring nature through its stabbing arms and legs, and a whimsical nature through the relatively low crossbars and thin character width. This represented Hitchcock’s love for both thriller and playful spy movies. This textural element was arranged in a manner that contrasted the text of the font with the negative space to create a portrait. Within the composition, I also included red text to draw interest to these particular words. This was because those words provided the most well-known of Hitchcock’s personality. The red was also reminiscent of blood, which reflected upon the macabre nature of many of his most popular films.

Typographical Poster

Wedding Invitations

For an upcoming bohemian wedding, I utilized Illustrator in the creation of these wedding invitations. Each graphic element in these invites are hand-drawn to capture the style that the couple desired. These nature oriented design elements pair well with the flowing script font.

Website Wireframes

Responsive Design Portfolio Wireframes

To begin the process of designing a portfolio website, the utilization of wireframes is key to the planning stages. It is during this stage that I represented where I would like the information to go and how the user would flow through the site. This is a great tool to see how each of the elements line up with one another and create a blueprint to follow once I was ready to fill in the style of the website. This is also incredibly useful when creating a responsive webpage. This permitted me to see how each element would layout on each viewport size.

Website Mockup

Responsive Design Portfolio Mock-Up

It was through the mock-up stage of my webpage that I was able to create the overall look and feel I wanted for my site. Following the blueprints that I had created in the wireframe stage, I was able to apply different images, textures, colors, and fonts until I found a composition that utilized the design elements and principles, and that I was happy with. I decided to go with a neutral palette since the site would be graphics heavy. I selected primarily warm neutrals to create a sense of invitation to the viewer. Having the completed a mock-up before coding the site permitted me to have a vision of the final site and streamlined the coding process.

Personal Logo

Personal Logo

To best represent myself and my style, I wanted the logo that I created to reflect my personality through the use of strong, feminine characteristics that also represented my abilities as a graphic designer. I accomplished this using a handwritten script font that provides a feminine feel as well as illustrates my appreciation of individuality. The weathered nature of the font shows my strong nature. The font has withstood hardship, and yet is still standing. The color used for the circle element is feminine in its pastel color. The use of negative space in designing the paperclip captures the creativity that I possess.

Digital Resume

Digital Resume

In designing my digital resume, my largest goal was to showcase my experience and my skills in graphic design. I also wanted to remain consistent with the brand that I had begun to create. This is all accomplished through the creation of my digital resume. I utilized the fonts that I decided upon in the logo and carried over the color scheme that I had developed. I also used the negative space element that I had developed in the logo in creating a side bar that housed my contact information and an image of myself.

Business Cards

Business Cards

The business cards that I created derived the elements from a combination of the logo and the digital resume. I used the logo as a basis for the creation, but continued with some elements, such as the separating lines, that I had established in the digital resume. For the back of the business cards, I continued to use the negative image of a paperclip but allowed the circle it was housed in to take over the whole area. This allowed me to persist in using the white text that was also present in the side bar of the digital resume.

Letterhead

Letterhead

The purpose of the letterhead was to create a stationary item that was consistent with the brand that I developed and could be written on and given to others to further promote myself. I used the logo that I had previously established and broke up the areas of the page using bars of the same color as the circle behind the paperclip in the logo. One bar separated the logo from the writing area and another bar spanned across the bottom to frame the writing area. The upper bar also contained my contact information in the same white font that I had used in both the business cards and the logo.

Leave-Behind Piece

Leave-Behind Piece

With the leave-behind piece, I wanted to create an item that would leave an impact and would be useful, so it would be difficult to dispose of. With this in mind, I created a small set of drawers that would hold cards that would be a miniature version of my portfolio. This would make adding to the portfolio at a later date very easy. These cards would be the same size as a business card, so I would be able to include a business card as well. The drawers would be l labeled with programs I am experienced in. The card would be placed inside the drawer that was used to create the design. There is also an “About” drawer to contain the identifying information such as the business card. The shelving unit itself is designed using the elements of the brand that I had established. I used the design for the front of the business card as the top of the shelving unit. Each side contained the paperclip element that is present in the logo. The bottom of the shelving unit contains my contact information in case the business card was lost. The front of each drawer would be the pastel mint-blue that matches the logo and the font utilized is the same as the previous print materials.
