Hi, thanks for visiting my website. I started making jewelry in high school, well over 20 years ago. I used to make sized sterling silver, gold rings, key tags etc. I worked mostly with metals but also turquoise designing, cutting, shaping and setting cabochons. I went on with life and didn't take up jewelry making again for several years. I have a condition called Systemic Lupus attacking my nervous system (much like M.S.) which has caused the need for me to leave the work force and find an enjoyable job/hobby I can do at home. I thought about taking up regular metallurgy style jewelry making again but the doctor advised against it because of my tendency to have small motor seizures (torch = fire add that to small motor seizures = disaster -LOL). Soooo, I decided I would learn beading skills. It fit, I could enjoy collecting gemstone specimens and make beautiful pieces with them. In the beginning, I took up beading custom jewelry as a therapy for my hands but lots of friends and family wanted my designs. I branched out to a few craft shows. It turned out to be a self supporting hobby. I decided not to place my items in shops and boutiques because I would have to raise the price too much. I only add a little over the cost of making the items to the sale price.
I have always been a rock hound. I can tell you the scientific specifications of many crystals and gemstones as well as the well known metaphysical qualities. I know my stones are true to what I call them. I have had some sources try and sell me reconstituted quartz gems as genuine. I know the difference. You can tell a fake gemstone (without x-ray technology) oftentimes by the way it fractures. Gemstones have a specific way in which they fracture because of the way they grow. Also you can tell by checking it's scratch resistance according to the MOH scale. I assure you all my gemstones come from reputable sources. I have spent time finding them!
I also have studied the unique characteristics of freshwater pearls. My suppliers think me a little nuts when I tell them I break a pearl on every strand I get. I've learned there are many different types of "seeds" (the little item they put inside the mussel to stimulate growth of the freshwater pearl, the "irritant"). Seeds range from plastic to sand to pieces of pearl. Some pearls show a barely visible seed with lots of Nacre while others have a large seed and very thin nacre coating (what the mussel puts around the irritant). I try to use only the best pearls with good luster and nacre build up.
I have tried to keep my items at "one of a kind" only. Even when people request similar items there is a definite difference. I will make an exception to this rule for wedding jewelry, mom and daughter, sisters or friends jewelry upon request. Some times you can be unique together! I will make something in most any stone and can make all types of color combinations. I have been commissioned to make several varieties before. Unless I have a special order I usually make between 1-3 items per week. However it is just as the thought hits me. I keep a permanent record of all items I have made so I never duplicate. Not all the items are pictured on this site.
I promise you will get only quality gemstones in my jewelry (where specified or requested). I love working with the gemstones and the Swarovski crystals. I also promise every ingredient listed is true. I don't wear much jewelry myself but get great joy working with the materials and watching the joy and appreciation when someone wears or commission's one of my items.
