WOMAN'S ROLE IN SOCIETY
What is man without woman? Adam without Eve? Washington without Martha, John Adams without Abigail? The human race is based on the ying and yang of the dual role of the sexes not only to procreate and preserve the species, but for the alter ego each provides. A great chasm liberates women from childbearing chores. It's only a matter of time before test tube babies give way to cloning itself and the one sure purpose of women will be supplanted by science and technology.
Birth control liberated women to join men in the workplace, revolutionizing family and social structure. No longer tied to home and household management women compete with men as breadwinner and head of household. Other female attributes besides child care and nurturing a family are the caring function of mankind, long relegated only to the household and nuclear family. This comes at a time of nuclear war, terrorism and struggle for world superiority, at just the time when people must make peace and assume the role of Earth's caretaker.
Thus this is not only the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius but the dawn of the age of women. Returning to eras prior to the advent of the Walled City and sedentary agrarian life based on power and force of law, we stand at the threshold of a new age in male-female relationships. This age will last a long time, emphasizing gender and role differences, providing new opportunities to explore their places in society as they find more complete experiences with their mates.
Already we doubled the work force in a generation by admitting women to the workplace on a par with men. By equal opportunity for equal pay we increase society's productivity. Women's talent of caring and nurturing spawned whole new markets and industries. In a world of Equal Rights and gender feminism, it is perhaps understated the value of the differences in talent and intellect women bring to the male-dominated social scene.
Opportunity of full expression of differences will be most valuable to 2000s society. Women finally stand as equal within and without the household as a full partner in responsibilities of procreation of society with men, who long relegated child rearing to women. Now she has an equal voice in community affairs, contributing as a full partner to household enterprise spiritually and financially. This is a prime opportunity for each sex to share their strengths with their significant other and in doing so make bonds between men and women richer and stronger.
Taking a cue from man's obsession with rights and responsibilities women insist on equal rights as well as equality in law, justice, responsibility, accountability, liberty and freedom equally with men, ending the double standard. From earliest times men wished for a full partner to share his life, as with prayers of Adam or those of Abraham and Sarah. Now for the first time men stand toe to toe with an equal in nurturing and evolving society, not just childbirth and child rearing, making a gentler, kinder world.
This step is necessary in the ongoing evolution of the species, a critical phase if man is to move from industrial work whistles to post-industrial service and knowledge of self and the significant other. If competitive male aggression runs rampant through the globalized world as in its colonizing phase would spell anathema to the whole human race. No longer having to tame nature by brute force and domination we must all learn from women how to live in harmony and unison with the Universal Laws of the cosmos, a hard and bitter lesson that conquest and pillage are a thing of the past. We must now join women in living as one on the planet and our place in the Universe. Only the lessons women teach will bring this about.
