Avanil and Boeruine
in war The celebration of Day of Rebirth is growing less important as the time passes. It seems that Anuirean people have more important things to care about. At any time, they could be sent away to fight for ideals unknown and die without glory or valor. The Spring Mustering of Avanil became more important than Day of Rebirth this year. However, young, recently crowned Prince Avan didn't even wait for the fresh troops to muster. Expecting sure victory after civil war in Boeruine, Prince Kendrik Avan marched his powerful army north to attack his nemesis. Two great armies invaded Boeruine. Avanese general, Alaran Steele, crossed Elfwash River into the rural part of Boeruine, while Prince himself lead his portion of army through the mountain pass known as Bloodwash after Rhuobhe's defeat. Coincidence or not, young Archduke Aerin IX Boeruine ordered that civil defense programs be started in some parts of Boeruine. The people of Boeruine were trained into capable warriors when the Avanese army arrived, and proved crucial in the battle. It is said that Prince Kendrik was so sure of his victory that he didn't even take his sister, Aubrae, an accomplished Wizard, to the battle. This proved his fatal mistake. As Alaran Steel occupied the province of Bacaele, the first sign of counter-attack came. Enchanted with powerful magic of Arlen Innis, Alaran's best troops left his side and joined the defenders. Soon after this, Boeruine army attacked the occupation force in Bacaele, dealing them a crushing defeat. Both Boeruinean and surviving Avanese soldiers claim that Archduke outmaneuvered Alaran Steele in almost every part of the battlefield. The conversation between two generals was written down by the Blood Bard who related to us this tale of Battle of Bacaele: Alaran Steele approached Aerin Boeruine alone and without hostile intent. He bowed as he came before the Archduke. "My Lord, your men fought well today and I congratulate you. I also wish for peace and do so swear that my men will not set foot upon your soil without your say. I am sure that the Prince has already arranged the compensation and that it will be delivered shortly. I apologize for the loss of life on both sides and promise it will not occur again." Archduke Aerin Boeruine responded as honorably. "Lord Steele, I accept your pledge on your honor. I do not hold this reckless and unprovoked assault against you. You save served your liege lord for good or ill. On fulfilling your duty I commend you. Your army is free to leave the field and return to Avanil. I hope we have all learned a valuable lesson here today, I pray the blood that has been spilled was not in vain. Our Lord Haelyn weeps when Anuireans battle Anuireans. I feel Haelyn was with us on this day, for if the outcome of this battle and the life that was lost ensures that peace may reign between Avanil and Boeruine then the sacrifice of our brave soldiers on both sides served a higher purpose and they shall be accepted in the holy realm of our Lord." The Archduke raised the flag of Haelyn and called for army to cease all hostilities. Boeruine's veterans and the members of civil guard raised their weapons in triumph and loudly hailed. "Long live the Archduke!" Yet, as Avanese soldiers withdrew from the field, there were no cheers of scorn or hatred, nor was there any mocking against the defeated foe. The officers of Boeruine, some of them paladins like the Archduke, keep the men in check and Boeruinean army silently paid respect to the Avanese soldiers in retreat. An occasional shout was heard from the members of the civil guard, but they were swiftly silenced. Archduke Aerin Boeruine raised his personal flag in salute to his opponent, the Wolf of Boeruine and that Lion of Haelyn on a green and blue background, the forest and the sea of Boeruine. The reinforcements from Diemed arrived too late, but still they could form another invasion army, and the province of Bloodwash was still occupied. However, for reasons unknown, the Avanese army retreated. The Boeruinean army was joined by priests from Northern Imperial Temple of Haelyn, but they too were too late. It is said that the Archduke, a paladin of Haelyn, never rested until each wounded was taken care for, doing as much work as every othe healer. | |||||||||

Just after Thuriene Donalls finished the investiture ceremony, the best of her troops in Five Peaks turn against their comrades and were defeated with great losses. Some sources say that Supreme Hierarch was nervous after the investiture, but became enraged after she received a report from her newly acquired territories. |
