| Journal of an Elf |
| July 21, 2003 I am writing this from an internet cafe in Germany. It is very mellow here, lots of trees and contact with nature (unforunately, this includes the schnacken, the local insect population who are given to viscious biting). It is good to be near Frische Lufte....I am visiting my Tante Ruth, who lives here in Mannheim, and staying in the Youth Hostel, which is located on the Rhine river. This is where the aforementioned insects come in. Through the window, that is. Before I left, I was able to go to one of the Tolkien gatherings from meetup.com. Here is a photo. I'm, of course, the one with the blue glasses. July 25th, 2003- This weekend, I will leave for Stuttgart, to visit Elfriede, the most elf-like of all of my Aunts. I haven't seen her in many years, since I was a very young elfling. It will be nice to visit Stuttgart, which I hardly remember, but Tante Ruth tells me is very beautiful. September 15th, 2003 Well, I am back in Mordor again, but what a time I had this Summer! I got to visit some of the more traditional elf haunts (Heidelberg, Stuttgart, the Black Forest) and get away from the smog and oppression of Upper Mordor. Unfortunately, I had to return for a time, to care for my ailing bank account, and for the Hobbit Birthday Celebration this weekend. I still haven't scanned the pictures from my (mis) adventures yet, but I shall, as soon as I get my greedy elf hands on a scanner..... September 25th, 2003 Well, I am terribly gratified that I did get a chance to go to Heren Istarion's Birthday Party for Frodo and Bilbo last Saturday- I even got a chance to bring Ursulwen, my Halfelven Mother, with me. I was pleased with the large number of Elves who decided to come, although I had to come in human disguise, since all of my appropriate clothing is still at my brother's place. I've had to stall on finishing the movement of the string quartet I started in Germany (the good Dinkelbrot, putanwurst, and Deutsche Bier are truly inspiring- no wonder Bach was so productive!) It's dismaying to be in such a bare area, with a severe tree shortage (no shortage of those dreadful moving metal boxes people sit in- ugh!) Fortunately, I will be staying here in outer Mordor for only a short period of time, so I can save some of those little green papers that humans use for trading, among other things. Then I will return back to the Rhineland, find a nice young elf (under 200, hopefully!) and settle down in a flet somewhere. I just hope I can keep the schnacken away. March 8th, 2004- Well, it's almost Spring now, and I have been in the Rheinland for more than two months. I have found a few other elves in the area, and I am living and working in Worms, home of the Niebelungen... I am still plugging away at my music, although the cloudy weather here has given me a terrible fit of laziness... and, of course, elves excel at laziness of all kinds. |
