My Thoughts on Legolas Greenleaf

Most of this site is written on a serious note.[As serious as I can get anyway] Here I will relax and sound like like a little schoolgirl. Ok, not really. I'm not in THAT much of a Legolas-frenzy. But I do appreciate and adore the character(s) [In my mind there are 2 Legolases- the one I read in the book and the one I saw in the film.]

Legolas kicks @ss! He's my favourite character [ Um, obviously ] I read the books before I saw the film so I already had my own picture in my mind of what Legolas looksl like. I imagined his outfit more greenish than what Orlando Bloom wore. And the way I pictured Legolas' movement as I read the books was not how Bloom descibes the elf in the film: Bloom said that Legolas moves like a cat...his moves are very balletic and "bloody hard to do without falling over" [HAVE to see bloopers!] I imagined Legolas as a jumpy character cuz he's always singing and when I read that in the books that "Legolas tritted lightly over the snow" (or something) I pictured him sort of "jumpy-skipping" along while everyone else pushed their way through the snow. In the film, Legolas slowly steps along over the snow (as opposed to "jumpy-skip"). I also did not picture Legolas with platinum-blond hair. I pictured him with strawberry-blond / yellowy-blond hair. Also did not imagine the plaits. Not saying that he looks bad [NO!]

I loved reading about Legolas' friendship with Gimli. Especially in The Two Towers ( I haven't read Part 3, working on it right now ). Had me laughing out loud with the counting / comparing and Gimli's protests [ if you don't know what I mean, read the books! Yes, I am plugging the books and helping them advertise!! ]. Hilarious! Also touching at times. I'm hoping that they expand on that in the next LoTR films or if not, at least do so in a Director's Cut of some sort. *fingers-crossed*

I have to admit that I did not take one look at Legolas and think "ooohhh-eeeerrrrr". I saw a picture of him (before seeing the film) on the Official Lord of the Rings Movie Site and I actually thought "he looks weird".LOL!!! [ I take that back now!!! Really!! ] Then in the cinema, when they showed the first shot of him as he got of his horse in Rivendell at the Council of Elrond, still I just thought, "Ok, he looks alright actually. Doesn't look weird." It was when he started fighting that I did think "oooohhhh-eeeerrrr,.............. hmmmmm..................he's NI--I--I--I----I-I---CE." [ Ahahaha! ] Just look at his face when he's fighting. [ NICE ] Sorry, Aragorn. Aragorn IS supposed to be THE MAN in the film, but sorry to him. *laffs* Legolas has taken that title! Cuz he shoots his arrows incredibly. Notably when he shoots three arrows killing three orcs in a row AND when he stabs an orc with an arrow and then shoots the same arrow to kill another. Amazing! And........and..........and...........you can fill in the gaps here, unless you think I'm rambling or you're a NON-Legolas-fan (if so, what are you doing here?) He looks great, fights like WOW..........and now I'm rambling.........

I agree that it would be great to have a mixture of the two different Legolas characters (more talking, less wailing): A Legolas that is confident and calm but has his childish
behaviour when he sees something new and talks and sings more.

Your Thoughts on Legolas

This is the first picture I saw of Orlando Bloom as Legolas.

This is sort of how I imagined Legolas as I read the books.
This is from my Top Trumps cards that I played as kid.
I guess it influenced how I pictured elves.
