Logfile from Elehu
Living Caverns (#392)
The rough-hewn majesty of this cavern far outpaces any delight in the multitudes
of curves that form its enclosure. The glabrous grey granite is shot through
with translucent obsidian, lending subtly-veined sparkle to the walls and the
foot-trodden smoothness of the floor that shows centuries-old placements of
the scarred trestle tables; carven hollows give homes for the glow baskets and
the coat-pegs that line the walls. No mosaics, no painting, no tiles: just a
few well-done tapestries mark the pathway that lead to the kitchen to the north
and the inner caverns to the west, and frame the nighthearth's stew and snacks,
while a heavier strip of oiled canvas shields the unwary from the wind in the
bowl.
Scattered about in various perches and niches are forty-seven firelizards.
You see OOC NOTICE (look sign), White Clay Egg Pot, Chalea, and Streak here.
Amisha and Nytari are here.

Amisha (#22123)
Amisha is a pretty young woman, with chocolate colored eyes that are constantly
looking around in curiousity, and light brown hair that has been cut short,
just even with her chin. She stands about 5'4 tall, and has a medium build that
looks just right on her.
She is wearing a rose colored gown, with matching ribbons in her hair. A delicate
gold necklace with a small pendant hanging from it, a gift from her father.
A single loop of cord of shimmering dark blue and glistening black braided together,
circles Amishas shoulder.
She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 9 minutes.
Amisha is 13 Turns, 10 months, and 26 days old.
Nytari has disconnected.
Trouble has gone somewhere else to happen. Nytari's gone?

And on Pern ...
The time is 18:43.
It is evening of the twenty-fourth day of autumn.
It is the twenty-eighth Turn of the Tenth Pass.
It is an autumn evening. The sky is dark and cloudy. Belior appears occasionally
through a small gap in the cloud cover. Rain continues to pelt down, washing
everything clean.
Elehu ambles in slowly, sighing as she runs a hand through hair that is finally back to damp which is an improvement over dripping wet. She nods quickly to Amisha, giving the young woman a warm smile as she moves towards the hearth, checking a couple of the pots there for fresh klah. Finally finding one to her satisfaction, she pulls it from the mantel and heads towards the nearest table. It's nice to stay near the fire today.
The housekeeper arrives to cart Nytari off to bed.
Amisha takes another sip of her own klah, sneaky like, making sure none of the "no no's" can see her doing it. The last thing she wants to hear is someone nattering on about how she's not old enough to be drinking klah. She sets the mug down and picks up the half finished blue shirt off her lap again.
Elehu pours herself an invitingly steaming mug of the dark brown liquid and sits back with a soft sigh, eyes closing as she takes in a deep whiff of that spicy aroma. But perhaps she took too deep a breath, as it eventually turns into a small yawn. Blinking lazily, hazel eyes turn to regard Amisha again as the Healer smiles faintly. "Staying out of the rain?" she calls over.
Amisha looks up at Elehu and nods, smiling. "Yes... Was going to go to the gallery to sew, but the wet convinced me to stay inside, instead."
Reiko saunters in from the Central Bowl.
Elehu laughs quietly and nods, more of a bobbing motion of the head, really. "Aye... and it won't take much to give you a good soaking today, that's for sure." And by appearances, Elehu knows this from personal experience. "Just a few minutes out there and I was absolutely covered..." The Healer trails of slightly as she notices another cavern-goer, offering the blue 'ling a quick wave and a smile a bit warmer than the weather. "Good afternoon, Reiko! Care for some fresh klah?" she calls over, motioning towards the mentioned offering.
Reiko (#21442)
Jet black hair falls shiny and straight just to her chin, a fringe of shorter
hair in front just brushing delicate brows. Her skin is creamy-pale, with just
a faint blush on high cheekbones and full lips. Wide-set emerald eyes are tipped
up slightly at the outside corners and framed with thick black lashes, giving
her a vaguely feline appearance. Neither overly tall nor overly short, Reiko
stands straight-shouldered with quiet confidence and moves with an easy, quiet
grace.
It's a uniform. Royal blue shirt, just a bit too big and left open at the throat,
neatly tucked into black trousers that almost fit... being just a /little/ too
snug. Worn black boots cover her legs to mid-calf, trouser legs stuffed inside
so as not to drag on the ground until she has time to hem them.
She is awake and looks alert.
Reiko is 20 Turns, 5 months, and 4 days old.
Elehu (#19619)
Elehu has grown into womanhood with quite a bit of success. She has curves in
most of the right places, though her body is still a bit on the thin side. Her
slender five and a half foot build has a faint gleam of golden bronze, the visage
or a traveler. Her rich brown, shoulder-length hair contains streaks of gold,
bleached by the sun, that seem to make her hazel-brown eyes shine with an inner
fire. Her hands are small, but her fingers are slender and nimble, well built
for her walk of life.
A thick skirt, the dark blue of dusk, with two deep pockets on either side falls
loosely from Elehu's hips. Peeking out from underneath, just above her dark
brown wherhide boots are a pair of leather trousers that look to be lined on
the inside with fur. She wears an off-white blouse with wide, loose sleeves
covering her arms. Over that there is a sturdy black vest made of oiled leather
that falls just above her waist, a dark brown belt matching her boots encircles
her waist, and a slender sheathed dagger, about six inches in length, hangs
at her right hip, with a small wherhide pouch at her left.
She is awake and looks alert.
Elehu is 20 Turns, 5 months, and 21 days old.
Reiko drags in, shivering and dripping. Sure, there's klah in the barracks, but it smells like leather and baby dragons. And Cerdith is sleeping. Maybe she just wants human company of the non-weyrling sort for a change? She smiles at Ele's greeting and slips over to the hearth, standing close enough for steam to rise from her soaked clothing. "I'd love some, thanks." As soon as she can feel her fingers again.
Amisha looks up at Reiko and smiles, nodding in greeting. "Hello." She puts the shirt back into the basket at her side and picks up another meatroll. Gee, how many meatrolls is that...
Another mug of klah is poured out, Elehu concentrating a bit more on the task than is really necessary. "I hope you don't have too much mending for the infirmary to do, Amisha," she mentions distractedly, giving the young woman a grin. Then mug is ready and held out towards Reiko as the Healer smiles softly. "Here... this should help warm you up a bit," she quietly mentions, probably unnecessarily.
With a polite nod for Amisha, Reiko reaches for the mug, having to take a step away from the blazing hearth to do so. She's right back in front of it in a moment, turning slightly, one hand picking at her wet uniform shirt to hopefully help it to dry more quickly. "It's /miserable/ out there," she remarks to no one in particular. She may have learned to distinguish the time of day, but she still has her stubborn habit of stating the blazingly obvious.
Amisha looks over at Elehu again. "Not so much mending that I don't have time to work on my other stuff, as well." She pats the shirt on top of the basket that she just put down. "I hope you haven't been too busy over in the healer hall."
Elehu leans back in her chair once more, thankful that her own clothes have finally begun to take on a slightly less sodden feel. "Too true. I'd been up in the meadows earlier today, trying to gather in some more herbs for the infirmary. I should have known I was pressing my luck, and sure enough," she mutters, tugging at a strand of damp hair, an amused grin given Amisha. "Oh, same old, really. There's always work to be done." She finally takes a long, much appreciated drink from her mug and sighs softly, eyes closing for just a moment fore reopening to regard the Weyrling. "How are you and Cerdith faring? I hear he'll be ready to fly soon. Well, Cerdith and the others as well, of course."
Reiko has been largely ignoring the healer-and-mending-related conversation as irrelevant--been there, done that--and concentrating on her own klah. She doesn't even notice Elehu looking her way, but she immediately responds to the utterance of her lifemate's name, a strange, soft smile lighting her face. "Thanks for asking. We're fine. He's been practicing his wing exercises." She pauses to roll her eyes expressively. "Chanticoth taught him to /dance/." As if he couldn't already.
Amisha blinks and looks at Reiko. "Dance?"
Elehu laughs softly, leaning a bit on the table at her side as hazel eyes twinkle in Reiko's direction. "Dancing, eh? Don't mention that to G'deon. He doesn't have such fond memories of his 'mate dancing," she teases lightly with a quick wink before turning once more to her klah. "Ah... this stuff is a miracle brew, I swear," she mumbles to herself, turning to top off her mug, then gesturing with the pitcher of klah to Reiko and Amisha in case they're running low. "My, how time flies. Won't be long before you're in the air with him," she muses quietly, again stealing a moment to study the blue rider. "Are you ready?"
Amisha has disconnected.
Amisha falls asleep.
The housekeeper arrives to cart Amisha off to bed.
A wicked little laugh escapes Reiko at the mention of Nylanth dancing -- she's lived at the Weyr long enough to piece together the details that Elehu is kindly omitting. She takes another long drink from her mug, draining it, then sets the empty mug on the floor, hunkering down on the hearthstones as if loath to leave the warmth of the fire. She looks up in time to see Ele's gesture with the klah pot, to which she shakes her head, and the studying look... to which she arches an eyebrow, returning it with a frankly appraising look of her own. "Ready?" Her lips curl in a twisted smirk, but her tone is mild when she replies. "How does one judge that? When he's strong enough, we'll fly. I'm not afraid, if that's what you're getting at."
Elehu doesn't seem to be put off by Reiko's demeanor at the moment, but instead she just leans forward, hands resting on her knees lightly. "Well, that's certainly good to hear," she simply replies with a twisted little grin of her own. "Of course, there's more to flying than just sitting on a dragon." She's not goading the 'ling, really she's not. "I mean, those biting winds, aching muscles... Perhaps I should bring some ointments one of these days, especially with autumn rushing towards winter like it tends to do." She shrugs a little, head tilting as she just continues to grin at Reiko. "Takes the bite out of cold fingers and toes... speaking of which, I could get a towel or blanket if you want," she adds rather suddenly. Can't have sick Weyrlings of course.
Reiko eyes Elehu narrowly, straightening herself again and picking at her damp clothing. "I'm nearly dry now," she says carefully, trying to make sense of what the Healer is saying... and not saying. "And I'm sure we won't be flying before we're ready." She barely suppresses a shudder. Will it really be almost winter by the time the weyrlings are strong enough to fly? Reiko doesn't like being cold.
Elehu's grin falters just a little as she sits up again, glancing away for a moment as she idly turns her mug on the table beside her. "Oh, of course," she replies rather weakly. "I mean, the weyrlingmasters know what they're doing and all." She looks at the Weyrling once more, pausing for a moment before slowly getting to her feet. "Well... um. If you ever need any help or... well, anything, feel free to let me know," she finally offers, trying what she hopes is an encouraging smile. "Clear skies, Reiko." Then with a simple nod, she turns to collect her few things that had been laid out to dry beside her.
Reiko scowls lightly as Elehu begins collecting her things, mostly to cover the fact that she has no idea why the Healer's attitude changed so suddenly. The expression intensifies by several degrees as she realizes she now has to go all the way back across the Bowl in the cold, wet darkness of the evening, but she manages to sound almost polite as she replies. "Thanks. Good night." And with a mental note to get herself a /thick/ jacket and /soon/, she stalks toward the exit.
Reiko goes home.
Elehu slows for a moment as she tucks a small packet in her belt pouch and glances at Reiko out of the corner of her eye, smile finally fading to a limp, empty look, one hand raising to wave belatedly at the Weyrling. But to no effect. "I know just the thing," she mumbles quietly to herself, eyes shining faintly as her lips curve in an almost resigned smile. "Just the thing." Then off she goes, to drag herself back to work. Or maybe just a quick nap. Just a little one.
