Adding sounds to your custom race
Select Dialogue from the Character menu.
Click on the Voice tab.
There aren't any entries under Alarm except for one for yagrum bagarn, so we won't add any entries there.
Left click on Attack.
Slide to the bottom of the list in the Info/Response window.
Right click under the last entry and select New.
Type in a subtitle that will match your sound file. Here is the ever popular "Aargh!".
On to the Speaker Condition section at the bottom of the Dialogue window.
Select your race from the Race dropdown menu.
Select Female or Male in the Sex dropdown menu.
Click the Sound Filename button at the bottom right corner of the Dialogue window.
Browse to the directory with the sound files you want to use. For simplicity, we'll use the Breton sound file from
Data Files\Sounds\VO\b\f
Choose a file to use, and click Open.
The original game voices are located in Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\VO.
(Assuming you've already copied the Data Files directory from the TES Construction Set CD to your Morrowind directory.)
There are subdirectories for each race, which are further broken down into separate female and male directories.
- a for Argonian
- b for Breton
- d for Dark Elf
- h for High Elf
- i for Imperial
- k for Khajiit
- n for Nord
- o for Orc
- r for Redguard
- w for Wood Elf
- ord for Ordinator
- v for vampire
- ww for werewolf (Bloodmoon only)
Female sounds are located in the f subdirectories, and male sounds are located in the m subdirectories.
Creature sounds can be found in Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Cr.
Bethesda's sound files use the following list of prefixes.
- Atk for attack
- CrAtk for attacking a creature
- Fle for flee
- Flw for accidental hits on friendly parties or if the player is too far from a NPC follower
- Hit for hit
- Hlo for hello
- Idl for idle
- Op for intruder
- Srv for service
- Thf for thief
