Making a new race
Here's a very basic walkthrough to making a new race-- descriptively called your_new_race.
For fun, we'll use
PhyntosWasp's animated wings (black).
Download the wings here.
Extract
TX_B_N_Blackwing_M_N.BMP and tx_wings_black.dds to your Morrowind\Data Files\Textures directory.
Extract b_n_blackwing.NIF, Xb_n_blackwing.nif, and Xb_n_blackwing.kf to Morrowind\Data Files\Meshes .
Start the construction set.
Select the master files you wish to use.
Don't set an active file.
Click the Character menu and select Race.
Click the New button.
Enter the ID for your new race.
Fill in the name for your race that will appear in game. Add or change skill bonuses, base attributes,
descriptions, scale, and racial abilities.
Check the box labelled Playable for playable races.
Now, you'll need to add all the body parts for your new race.
Open the Body Part tab.
Make new body parts for your race. You'll need to make male and female parts of each type--
for humanoid races, the parts are
- ankle
- chest
- foot
- forearm
- groin
- hair
- hands (you'll also need a first person model hands.1st)
- head
- knee
- neck
- upper arm
- upper leg
- wrist
- vampire head
- "If you make a beast race you get to use the tail bodypart too." - Smight Plight
You can assign multiple female and male heads and hairs to your race.
We're going to cheat here, and copy the Breton body parts for simplicity. Double click on
the first Breton body part-- b_n_breton_f_ankle.
Change the ID in the box at the top left.
Change the race to your new race with the dropdown menu at the right.
You'll need to do
this for all of the body parts.
To add the wings, we'll follow the readme included with the download. When making the necks for your new race, click "Add Art File" and choose b_n_blackwing.nif.
A note about vampire heads: each race has one male and one female vampire head.
If you want to avoid having your head disappear upon turning into a vampire, name your vampire
heads as follows:
b_v_your_new_race_f_head_01 for females
b_v_your_new_race_m_head_01 for males
Change your_new_race to the ID of your new race. If it doesn't match exactly, your
vampire heads may not show up.
To check your new race, add an NPC by clicking the NPC tab. Right click in the listing of NPCs and select New.
Choose your new race in the Race dropdown menu.
Open a cell in the CS, and drop your new NPC into the Render window to see the finished race.
Save your mod, and enjoy.
