Subaru's return to the street
Updated Feb 22, 2003.....
What else is there to say , other then its recieved a new "lease" on life. (smirk)
HAving found the 1987 wagon that only "needed" a transmission and the 1986 regularly recieving visits from "hospice" It was spring break when the transformation started over a period of a week.... and its almost ready to hit the street again.... HAving located an engine locally from a fel fellow member on the USMB as I was so grateful to luck out on such a deal. The XT6 is losing its clutch friction or quite.....
...seeing as how it (the 1987) has air-ride suspension, getting the fronts to hold air , was a good idea but, the a nicely researched new idea will have the working XT6 suspension installed as they almost directly bolt up in place... Why do i talk of an XT6 well its got larger factory rims, and a better braking system too.
on dashboard is the digital shifter lettering, BUT itsits been modified to have a few switches mounted to the shifter for activating the reverse lights "At will." and the crusie control still has to have a few wires chases and connected where they need to be so I can use it. (GEEKY SIDE NOTE) Found that the digital dash has an actual 'jumper' for switching between KPH and MPH, so i split the wirte and added the switch in a hidden area of the dash for use when I feel like crossing the border into Canada to visit friends.
MPFI, reasonable stock turbo, "Hill-holder(R)," fixed MAF sensor, fixed air shocks, an extra fan sitting in the spare tired area was the factory A/C fan that is now in its proper place. There is now an after market 2.5 inch exhaust from the turbo back that is surprisingly quiet.
Recycling the Dead
after the (tranny, driveshaft-rearend, brake system, and wheel) swap...need to figure out those air shocks. Figured out the air ride system..... now to seal that leaky air line.
