Just the Sube' conversion, continued......

The Hill-holder mounting was nice and easy with the "tranny not yet installed."; The ONLY Trouble was using the existing Master cylinder and having to Plug the 4th (extra) brake line as the Hill-Holder Master cylinder has only 3 line outputs. {Ended up getting a tapered hexhead plug that was brass to fit the thread pattern "nice and snugg" and block off that 4th hole
Tangent note: hopefully these pictures load faster - with it being shrunk in viewing size, you can right-click on them and save for the larger view - at least this had better work for you.
It was so nice having this activity as a literal direct bolt on. Just a little advise, have an old knuckle attached to the rear output shaft of the Dual-Range (or single range- if thats what you have) and tape or bungee it in during the dropping of the tranny. This way it won't drain the gearlube by spilling out thru that rear output during the removal and install. We just tipped it (the tranny) back and let it drain before completely removing from the chassis of the 1986 GL wag
Notice the Michigan Cancer above?
This is what was left of the front suspension  on the 1986 GL that never saw the road again...
July 2002, 'Trouble's Knee and calf rebuilt was a success and so was his physical therapy, so far as we can tell. :>)
From here we spent the rest of the day...

emoving the 3.70 ratio rearend off the Turbo and its halfshafts was mostly without trouble. One of the half-shaft locking pins was extremely stubborn. Once the 3.90 rear was removed we lowered the 86 rear back down and then lifted the 87 GL-10 s rear back up and  did the swap out.  Might I suggest removing the half-shaft locking pins before  loosening any of the rearends bolts. Once that swap was complete we had an almost luxurious amoust of "elbow-room" in the 86 engine bay to remove the Hill-holder with all its brakelines and the clutch cable with the master cylinder. WARNING! When getting under the dash to remove the mnaster cylinders 4 firewall bolts - make sure you have the entire pedal assembly out of your way and ready to be stuck into the other automatic cars area. It like everything else will bolt right in. IT just makes it easier to remove the speedo cable and clutch cable and the brake switchs on the underside of the steering colloumn. Now that that is readvised...,installing the Hill holder from the 1986 GL into the (no-longer auto-4spd 4wd) GL-10 is kind of tricky. You'll have to bend the steel  lines but, its not that hard, just DO THIS BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE D/R TRANNY!  We realized this as we were putting the D/R up nto the GL-10 to see how the turbo exhaust would handle the tranny swap. (TANGENT)  The exhaust from the turbo all the way back had been welded into one piece for the previous owner. Hey its spring break, so we (Trouble and I)  took our time and D.I.R.T.F.T. [Did_It_Right_The_First_Time] After all 'Trouble' (that's his nickname -he earned it long ago) was not going to do anything- that might damage his knee before getting it rebuilt as well.  We actually had fun, much to other peoples surprise at what we did for "our springbreak
As you can see the exhaust was a mild annoyance with being welded as one long piece. The lines directly above it are the emergency /PArking break cables. Make sure you get them situated ABOVE the TRANNY Support AND the lower control arm for the front suspension!!!  Other wise you'll have no slack what so ever and exposed to undesirable stuff from on or off road fun. The pictures at left are (TOP) before the Dual/Range install into the front and (bottom left) front-to-rear of GL-10 with the Dual/Range and 3.90 rear swapped in. The image directly below shows a later that night view of tranny needing the front half-shafts attached and necessary wires attached to the wire harness of the car. (I have yet to actually hook up the reverse light switch in the tranny to the cars wire-harness) Presently, I have a simple manual switch attached to the gear shifter - for the flick of the thumb. (whicked grin) ITs amussing to see the reaction of Tailgatters when at speed on the road my reverse light come on; how nice it is to not have someone so close they technically would qualify as a trailer after a flashing of those lights.
In the cabin, under the shifter unit of the automatic the plate comes right up and allows the swift install of the levers for the standard D/R gearbox. WARNING!!! Don't cut the wires to the shifter unit from the automatic. You'll have to deal with this too - later. Once all the under the steering colloumn(sp) pedal parts are installed, the newly modified Hill-holder brake system is bled, and the exhaust is bolted up to the turbo, and the clutched fan is reinstalled (or like we did for testing - we just bolted the  pullies and left the clutched fan off for a full system test).. more later.....
