Low Pressure Discharge Experiments
This is the setup that I use for my low pressure discharge experiments. The vacuum pump at the top is what I use for lowering the air pressure in the discharge tube. There is no need in using an expensive electric vacuum pump as a hand pump can create a good enough vacuum. The Glass tube at the bottom of the photo is where the discharges take place.
Above - The vacuum pump that I use for my experiments.
Left - The discharge tube and valves. The top valve leads to the vacuum pump and is for taking the air out of the discharge tube. The other valve is used when other gases such as helium need to be put into the discharge tube. The high voltage DC power supply is connected to the two screws coming out of the end of the rubber bungs. For the power supply I use my marx generator.
