Feri's Electrolysis, owned by Feri Law,
has been serving Delaware County and the Main Line area since 1969. Feri
is a licensed cosmetologist, certified and registered by the state of Pennsylvania.
Feri, also a teacher of cosmetology and electrolysis, was trained at Hoffman
Electrolysis School in New York. She earned her teaching license from Venus
Academic Institute of Electrolysis. Other credentials include a bachelor's
degree in education from Millersville State University and a Master's degree
from Temple University
Electrolysis is the process
of removing unwanted hair permanently by coagulating the root of hair called
papilla. This is done by applying heat through a needle like wire called
a probe, which is inserted into a natural opening of the hair follicle
to destroy the bottom one-third of the follicle. This procedure causes
gradual cellular destruction impairing the ability of the follicle to produce
a hair.
At Electrolysis we specialize in permanent,
medically approved facial and body hair removal. We offer a complimentary
15-minute consultation, where procedures are carefully discussed and explained.
Treatments are completely private and performed in a comfortable atmosphere.
To accommodate our clients busy schedules, Feri offers daytime, evening
and weekend hours
1) What are the causes of unwanted hair growth?
There are many causes of hair growth. The most
common causes are biological changes, heredity, medication, stress, dysfunction
of the endocrine system such as irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders,
or thyroid irregularities. As a woman advances through puberty, pregnancy
and menopause, she experiences fluctuations in hormone levels which may
cause increased hair growth in an area that has never before been affected.
2) Why not use temporary methods of hair removal?
Temporary hair removal such as shaving, waxing,
tweezing, bleaching, depilatories and the use of home mechanical devices
not only may cause skin irritation, ingrown hair and distorted follicle,
it may also stimulate many other fine hairs to become coarser, thicker
and more noticeable.
3) Is it uncomfortable?
Electrolysis is not any more uncomfortable than
plucking or waxing. The sensation varies according to the area and to the
sensitivity of the skin and person. Feri would start you at a low level
and gradually increase the power to where you are comfortable and the hair
would be destroyed.
4) What are the side effects?
A slight redness and possible scabs which are
very tiny and are invisible to eyesight. Feri would recommend post treatment
care.
5) What about infectious diseases?
Every client gets a new sterilized disposable
probe for each treatment. Feri wears disposable gloves and follows the
national recommended standard of sterilization procedures.
6) How many times do I need to get a treatment?
The best time to remove the unwanted hair permanently
is to catch it at an early stage. Since the hair growth is at different
stages, one of the most important elements in achieving successful destruction
of the hair follicle is the continuity of treatments. Permanent results
are best achieved by the faithful participation of each client in a planned
program in order to catch it at an early stage. the time in which one achieves
permanent results is dependent upon such factors as ones medical history,
age, previous temporary hair removal methods used, the texture of the hair
to be treated, the sensitivity of the skin and/or person and frequency
and type length of treatment.
