MAKING IT IN THE END

Sydney band weir release their debut EP, The Risk, on 15 August 2005. Formed in 2003 and having toured with the likes of The Devoted Few, Speedstar and The Forgotten Army, weir are ready to take you away with their gorgeous soundscapes of emotional and intense rock, beautiful melodies, and quiet intensity.

With a refreshing new lineup as of January 2005, the four piece have been busy spending the better part of the last few months getting their live sound down pat – a cross between early Radiohead, Mazzy Star and the Doves - as well as putting the finishing touches on the 4 track EP about the country. But things are only just starting to heat up, with a number of special live tour dates just on the horizon.

weir recently jetted over to Perth to record The Risk EP with Dave Parkin (The Hampdens, Halogen) at Blackbird Studios, while Dale Shearsmith (Ramble On Studios) took care of the mixing back in Sydney, where the illustrious William Bowden put his name to the mastering. The result is the infectious and uplifting The Risk EP, available from the bands official website.

If you can’t wait until the official release date, jump on over to there to get a special sneak peak of some tunes.

Dates:
Friday 19th August - The Cat & Fiddle, Balmain
Saturday 17th September - The Civic, Sydney (EP launch)
Tuesday 27th September - Jager Uprising, Spectrum, Darlinghurst
Monday 17th Octobert - Hopetoun Homebake Incentive, The Hopetoun, Surry Hills

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS JOINS JENNY

James Blundell, Tim Freedman and international guest artists Rick Wakeman (prolific solo artist and member of Yes) and Ashley Holt are the latest additions to the impressive line-up for the annual Jenny Morris & Friends benefit concert.

They will join Jenny Morris, Mark Lizotte, Troy Cassar-Daley, Abby Dobson, Rob Hirst, Beccy Cole, David Lane, television comedian and artist Queenie Van de Zandt and Master of Ceremonies, Tony Squires. This one-off line up promises to be a huge night and tickets are selling fast.

The Jenny Morris and Friends benefit concert raises funds for the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy clinic and teaching facility at The Golden Stave Music Therapy Centre. Last year’s concert raised in excess of $35,000.00 for the The Golden Stave Music Therapy Centre and this year we hope to double that. Tickets for the event are $175.00 which includes food, drinks and a tax deductible donation of $100.00. Tickets are available at http://www.nordoff-robbins.com.au/jennymorris.

Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy actively engages individuals in their own growth, development and change through the power of music. It helps reduce isolation and create new possibilities for participation in the world as well as independent living.

Date:
Thursday, 25th August - The Basement, Sydney
