Information

Here is some information on how Denryuu are portrayed/played in this game:

Ampharos behaviour is based on real sheep. They are herbivores, live in flocks, and prefer open country. Denryuu dislike forests because it limits their ability to see long distance, and it gives predators places to hide. Using their lights, they hold a constant vigil against predators. Oddly coloured sheep are more likely to be attacked.

A denryuu lives 10 to 20 years, ewes living longer than rams. Males are about twice the size of females. Rams that are fully evolved and between one and three years old leave their natal flocks and form ram flocks, led by the dominant {usually biggest} ram. These ram flocks stay separate from the females and their lambs most of the year.

Rams live in a hierarchy. When two strange rams meet, if they are the same size they have a head butting match to decide who is dominant. These battles may last long although they often only take one or two headbutts to decide a winner.

Denryuu ewes live in flocks made up of a large family group, led by the oldest ewe. They have one lamb per year, they come into season first generally at 2 years of age. Domestic breeds or domestic crosses can breed earlier, more often, and can have more than one lamb at a time, although these births are often difficult.

Breeding takes place in autumn, so that lambs are born in spring. In the late summer/autumn the rams rejoin the ewes and compete to breed them. They stay together until late fall, then separate.

Denryuu use their lights for long-distance communication as well as to convey emotions and intentions. In general, flickering lights show fear or submission; flashing lights can signal alarm, a steady glow shows confidence or contentedness, the lights blink merrily when an ampharos laughs. They dim when a denryuu sleeps but never go out entirely.

Ampharos are physically slow. They rely on their lights and their good vision to spot predators from far off. Amps, especially rams, may clump together and fight enemies with their electricity. They will run from ground types, like a tribe of marowaks. They use their cotton spore to slow a ground type enemy and obscure its vision while they flee.

Behaviour and physical abilities of ampharos vary somewhat with the different races of amps that have been created. If you have an idea for a new species of denryuu, feel free to submit it!
