Family Practice Issues:
You will soon receive your election package and ballot from the OMA. I am writing to ask for your continued support as Director for District 3.
I believe I have the experience and the reputation for fairness that the position requires. My experience as a representative of the Kitchener-Waterloo Academy of Medicine and District executive has taught me the importance of representing Specialist and GP interests fairly and equally. My objective is always to improve the working conditions for all physicians and advocate for groups or individuals who are disadvantaged.

I am a strong supporter of choice of practice style and method of remuneration. The diversity of practice styles reflected in our District emphasizes the importance of choice. With villages, small towns, large towns, small and large cities the style of Family Practice varies widely across our District. It is very important that Family Doctors have a variety of practice styles and methods of remuneration to choose from. The problem we have now is that the Fee for Service model is not properly compensated or supported. Negotiations have made significant gains at equalizing the compensation for FHGs and Fee for Service Physicians and their successful conclusion is vital. A Comprehensive Care Fee, expanded basket, provision for solo practitioners, bonuses, resolution of on call and after hours commitment are needed. Whether you prefer Fee for Service, Blended, Capitated or Salaried payment plan you need proper support and compensation. Each model needs to be equally well compensated and equally accessible to all Family Doctors.

The Coalition has indicated that their goal is to promote the interests of GPs by any means and they have indicated that they are prepared to break up the OMA to accomplish these objectives. I believe strongly that the strength of the Medical Profession is our ability to work cooperatively as Specialists and GPs to accomplish the goals of all physicians within the OMA. A strong united profession is needed as we deal with an increasingly aggressive and powerful government.

Please take the time to read the enclosed endorsements. I will continue to promote the interests of all physicians in our District with your continued support.
