Travel Log... ...
Straw roofs, bound down by cords, were the standard for homes prior to the industrialization of Korea.
In ancient times women would ride to their wedding ceremony in carriages like this one.
Stone Murals like this one capture and convery ancient stories and proverbs.
This stone wall was built to dam water on a river.  The excess then spills  over the top and heads downstream..
"The Fountain of Five Blessings," is said to bring good luck.  Each blessing is represented by a different animal head.
In front of this ancient style house is a vegetable and flower garden.  Gardens like this can be found in many rural areas.
Cheju Trip:
Dec. 28, 2002 - Jan. 11, 2003

All the pictures to this point in the travel section have been from my most recent trip to Korea.  Most of the pictures were taken on Cheju Island (ֵ.)
The weather was really nice for the first couple of days which is when most of the pictures were taken.  The little hotel I stayed in was called the Hayanpoongkyung (Ͼdz.) It had a little kitchenette which helped save on money and a beautiful view overlooking the ocean.  It was located fairly close to several tourist attractions that Sunhang() and I visited the first couple days I was there.
After visiting everything we could reasonably get to on foot, we rented a car and drove around the island.  The first day we drove around the eastern side of the island and visited many waterfalls, buddhist temples, and a folk village.  It was a great drive, but a scary experience since I had never driven in Korea before.
The next day we hit the western half of the island.  The rain started to come down hard and the wind picked up which made the drive kind of fun.  We pulled off to the side of the road and I filmed the waves crashing against the docks.  We didn't see too much that day.  We drove to the capitol city of Cheju, which oddly enough is called Cheju City.  We had BBQ yangnyum tongdalk (,) for dinner.  The highlight of any trip to Korea.
It snowed for everyday after that.  I went to Seoul a couple of days later and met Hanghyun () at the university she works at and then went to dinner with her and Jeeeun (.) It was fun to hang out and eat and and talk since it had been a long time since I saw them.
I bummed around in Seoul for a couple more days shopping and eating before making the trip home.
and I after we watched the first sunrise of 2003.  This is the closest to looking like an angel I will ever get.
From right to left: Me, , and .  We had some fun with the remote on my video camera at the dabang (ٹ.)
This is the smallest car I have ever seen in my life.  I took this picture at the Mercedes dealership near my hotel in samsung-dong (Z) in Seoul.
