Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, who, if his son ask bread, will give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Matthew 7:7-11, 3 Nephi 14:7-11

I finally visited my own page again, and I realize that today is the day I have found the answer to the questions I raised last time. It came to me on my bus ride to school today, although I had long since forgotten that I was asking the questions to begin with. It actually came as an answer to a different question. I was pondering on my ride the reliance we must have on the Lord, and the opportunities He gives us, through trials and chastisements, to be humbled. I have heard being humble described as being teachable, and wondered that if the definition were true, what could the Lord be teaching us by affecting the course of our lives in such a way that we see ourselves as helpless without Him? In a moment of curiosity, I wondered why we should be blessed so greatly only when we fully realized that the blessings are coming from Him.
The answer was simple: "He is teaching us how to love our children." He is teaching us how to love our children in this life and in the life to come. He teaches us by making sure we see the examples of His love in our lives. If you read any of the scriptures, you will find time and time again where the Lord refers to each of us as "little children" (which puts new meaning to scriptures such as Matthew 18:6). We are His little children, and His love for us is also the example we should follow.
I guess, in short, once again, the answer is simply that He is teaching how to be like Him.
