Child of Light  - Child of Fire

The one who is chosen by the light will understand the power and master the rod.  The rod will weld the power.  The rod is with me hidden beneath the sea where water drips from the ceiling but cannot rise against the walls.  You will find me under where the boy king took his first breath.  The way in is in plain view but cannot be seen.  Only the child of light will hold the power to see the difference and find the way in.

   The frail old man stumbled as he walked across the rocky beach.  When he reached the water’s edge, the boat arrived almost by magic.  Soon, he was walking up the winding path to the cottage at the top of the Thor.  As he approached the modest dwelling the lovely tall slender form of Milan, High Priestess of Avalon, appeared at the doorway.  He took her extended hand and kissed it.

   He thanked her for her hospitality and walked out the door.  The boat was waiting to return him to the other side when he reached the water’s edge.  He turned with sadness and heavy heart looked back at the Thor and Milan.

   The old wizard took a hidden path through the hills to his secret cave beneath Tintagel castle.  The entrance to the cave was hidden by a large boulder.  With a wave of his wand, the boulder moved to the side.  Once inside, the old wizard waved his wand for the final time and the boulder moved back into place, sealing the entrance.  He walked slowly down the shaft into the depths of the cave, taking one last look around he laid, down on the stone shelf he had prepared many years before.  He folded his arms, still clutching his wand, took his last breath.

   Horned Toad Hall is a new boarding school located in a rural area of Central Texas named Diamondback Hollow (for the diamondback rattlesnakes that live in the area).  The old run-down three-storied building on the hill used to be a prestigious college in the 1930's.  The school closed in the mid-1950's and due to neglect fell into ruin.  It was recently purchased by an organization called The Guardians. Within hours following the purchase it was restored to its former glory.  The holes in the walls were fixed and freshly painted; new shiny tiles replaced the old broken ones in the floors and the stained glass windows were magically repaired. A library stand “embellished” with a sign that reads: “Only the one pure of heart will be able to break the spell and open the book” is placed in the main entrance but no book sits upon it.

   Carrying the daily mail, Colin Bender had just returned home from his job at the United Nations.  He entered the Madison Avenue town home he shared with his wife Julie and their teenage, daughter Willa.

    Colin, Julie and Willa were all born in the UK. Colin grew up in Cornwall and Julie in East Angela.  While they were attending college at Cambridge University they were introduced to each other by Kylie, Colin’s younger sister who was Julie’s suite mate.  It was love at first site.  They married soon after Julie graduated and moved to London.  Two years later they had Willa.  Willa was five when they moved to New York.  Colin and Julie are both tall, Colin at 6'5" and Julie at 5'11".  Both are slender with blonde hair and blue eyes.  Willa at 14 is 5'7" slender build with long, thick waist-length blonde hair and blue, almost turquoise, eyes. She will start high school in the fall with Bethanne.  The two have been inseparable since first grade.  Bethanne’s dad works for the British Embassy in New York and both of her parents are from England as well.

This is the first book in a series of eight.  The main characters are:
