Willa's mother Julie, baby brother Robert and grandmothers Brenda and Sarah have finally arrived at the compound in Diamond Back Hollow.  After dinner the immediate family except for Robert are gathered out by the pool when a large rubbery bubble appears around them.  They are visited by Merlyn who has come to give them news and warnings of upcoming events.  Merlyn informs the family that Terry, Julie's middle brother and Kylie Colin's middle sister have joined the guardians and are now in search of Merlyn's book.  Merlyn also informs Willa that the spell on the book has been broken.  He warns Julie to keep a close eye on Robert and not let anyone around him she doesn't trust.  He also tells the family that the portal to the Netherworld has been opened and the spirits are restless because of Carrie.

The Indian spirits that were killed by her people ages ago want to do her great harm and she must be protected at all cost.  After Merlyn delivers his messages he disappears and the parents go to the study to call Susan and Tom in New York to warn them about Terry and Kylie.  Julie and Willa are on their way to rescue the girls from Robert.  On the way up to Willa's room her mother notices the heart shaped necklace Phillip gave her on valentines.  Willa does not want to let her mother know of her true feelings towards Phillip.

Once Julie gets Robert and takes him to his room for a bath and bed Willa goes into her room only to find Carrie and Cassie.  She asks where Bethanne is and is told she is taking a shower.  Carrie and Cassie also inform her that Bethanne heard what she told her mother regarding the death of Bradley and Ms. Crabtree.

Later that night Cassie and Willa are visited while they are sitting out on her balcony by the spirit of the Indian Chief.  He informs Willa and Cassie they are planning on taking Carrie hostage to hold until her father arrives to save her.  Cassie sends for her grandmother a voodoo priestess who comes in later the next day to perform a purification ceremony at the entrance of the portal she will also attempt to close the entrance to the spirit world.  While the ceremony is going on Carrie is tricked out of the safety of the compound and is whisked away by a zombie spirit and taken into the Netherworld.
