| Since I don't get out to see movies very often, this page will be a little thin. But how about some video/DVD reviews? Those I can do! | ||||||||||||||||
| DVD's I've seen recently (updated 1/27/2003) | ||||||||||||||||
| The Rookie - Dennis Quaid stars in this movie about a man that had been in the minor leagues (baseball), but hurt his arm and had to quit. At 35, he's coaching the high school baseball team in his small hometown of Big Lake, Texas. They make him a deal that if they win District, that he'll try out again for the majors. He agrees, thinking it wouldn't happen since they had only one three games total over the past three years. Anyway, I won't spoil it for you, but it is a wonderful movie. Rent the DVD so you can watch the inspirational story afterwards. My Dog Skip - This is a movie about a boy and his dog. It reminded me of my Dad and his dog Toy (I wonder if Toy was a Jack Russell Terrier like this dog was). Anyway, the boy in the movie is nine and not very popular at school. He has no friends so his mom gives him this dog for his birthday and the dog literally changed his life. The movie is a tear-jerker at times, but worth watching. About a Boy - Hugh Grant stars in this movie about a guy that refuses to grow up and take responsibility for his life. He has never worked since his father wrote some silly Christmas song and he just lives off the royalties. He is horrible in relationships with women (and most people), but ends up becoming friends with this young boy. They both end up helping each other grow up. This movie was slow in some spots, but worthwhile overall. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - I enjoyed this movie! It's about four young girls that grow up yet always stay friends. One of the daughters of one of the girls has a difficult relationship with her mother, so the other "ya-ya's" meddle to try to work the relationship out. The movie is full of funny and tender moments. A perfect chick-flick. (My mom says the movie is better than the book.) The Importance of Being Earnest - This is another great movie! It stars Rupert Graves and Reese Witherspoon. It is such a clever show. I got confused during some parts, but once I figured it all out, it was brilliant. Very enjoyable. Riding in Cars With Boys - This movie stars Drew Barrymore. It's a good movie, but sad and a bit too dreary. You feel for the main character because she can't seem to get a break and she keeps trying. She has a child young and tries her best to raise him right, but I got so discouraged watching her selfish attempts at motherhood. I think this movie is worth watching if you are in the mood for a true drama. Captain Corelli's Mandolin - Nicholas Cage stars in this movie about the Italian and Greek invasion of Greece. It sure doesn't portray the Germans in a good light at all. It is a wonderful movie and has beautiful photography. A great love story. Sarah Plain and Tall - This is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. It stars Glenn Close and is set in Kansas during the turn of the century. I loved this movie and the two sequels. |
