Welcome to Ekipatez Compositions!

This page is an archive of the music I have composed to date, I hope you enjoy listening to it.
Each section is in reverse order to the order I've written them in, i.e. the latest piece is at the top of the list.

Most of the following tracks are in MIDI format so the sound will vary from system to system - my apologies if they sound awful on your computer. I had recorded all of the MIDI files into MP3 format but unfortunately the files are too big to put on the internet, besides the quality is not quite as good as the MIDI versions themselves, therefore just the vocal tracks are MP3s. Lastly, it would seem that the MIDI files cut out about the last second of every song so they don't end quite the way they're meant to.

All of the following music was composed using Sibelius 2.
It is my intention in the future to produce better quality versions of every track featured below, all of which will be in MP3 format. I would also like to try some of these out with live musicians but that might not be very easy.

Instrumental (MIDI Format)

The following are all in MIDI format so may vary depending on how your sound card attributes different sounds to different instruments with this type of file. I have heard one case on a different computer where the saxophone sounds are slightly out of tune making the whole piece sound awful.

Listen  Wii Fishing Mini-Game - 06.12.2008
Back on the computer game themes again, this short one would fit a mini-game with a fishing theme for the Wii quite nicely. A little obscure I'll grant you, to be honest it could be used for other things but it does have that certain Wii "Mii creation screen" dis-jointed feel about it - those who have spent ages creating Miis will know what I mean.

Listen  The Max Power Ballad - 03.11.2008
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Marimba Madness - 23.08.2008
Yet another 'Mario Kart' sounding track, this time featuring the marimba. I particularly like the rhythm of this track which, coupled with the marimba, would make a good typical soundtrack to a jungle-themed course: perhaps "Dino Dino Jungle" from 'Mario Kart: Double Dash' or "Hidden Village" from 'Diddy Kong Racing'.

Listen  Hippies! - 22.08.2008
This could be a typical looped track (if modified slightly) for a computer game level - perhaps a track in 'Mario Kart': I was thinking "Rainbow Road" personally! Don't ask me why I've called it Hippies! - possibly because of all the bright colours on "Rainbow Road", and the fact that it features a sitar.

Listen  The End With No Beginning - 21.08.2008
Continuing my computer game theme, this is a typical part of an ending piece to a game: I had 'Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker' in mind while writing it so you could try picturing that sort of ending while listening.

Listen  Ave Maria - 18.08.2008
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Rosie & Pete's Wedding March (for Organ) - 30.06.2008
(See above for the original "Rosie & Pete's Wedding March" composed for strings.) Rosie and Pete decided they wanted to use the piece as the exit music from the church so they asked that I transcribe it for organ. It was originally composed as a joke, but Rosie and Pete seemed happy with it being played live :-).

Listen  Water Memories - 22.06.2008
Another sort of computer game piece. The sadness of the start and end to this piece signifies coming in and out of a pleasant nostalgic reverie with regret that it's now just a memory. The middle is music signifying water exploration in a dreamy lagoon! Perhaps a game such as 'Donkey Kong 64' or 'Banjo-Kazooie' - I actually had "Gloomy Galleon" in mind from 'DK64' for the water part.

Listen  My Immortal Armour - 12.06.2008
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  A Traveller's Psalm - 09.06.2008
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Flying By Flute - 09.06.2008
As my mother's attempt for her friend, my sister, and myself to form a trio of two flutes and a piano, she requested a short arrangement for said instruments. So here it is.

Listen  One-By-One - 24.05.2008
Having what some may consider to be an unhealthy interest in music from computer games, I've decided to try and perfect a piece of my own. This is my first attempt, it is more of a singular piece, like an overture, rather than a piece that can be looped in-game. You may notice a couple of bars from the opening to 'Banjo-Kazooie' in a few places :-) - this is the sort of game I intended this overture piece to be for.

Listen  In A Christian Way - 27.02.2008
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Livin' Till The Day That I Die - 02.12.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Freedom To Fly - 03.09.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  One Man & His Dog - 29.08.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Rosie & Pete's Wedding March - 28.08.2007
This is dedicated to two of my friends who will be getting married next year. There's been a running joke that their theme tune should be the theme to "Rosie & Jim", the children's TV programme - this explains why said theme appears quite prominently in the march. There is a variation on this theme that plays during the wedding march itself.

Listen  Love Is Blind - 24.08.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Neil's Song: The AQA Jingle - 18.07.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.
Note: This track is based on the song "Rio" by Duran Duran.

Listen  Bungalow Three - 19.05.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Boalch: The Amorbis Incident - 13.05.2007
Another example of the Boalch mania. This portrays an incident from which I was absent when Mr Boalch decided to impersonate the Boss character "Amorbis" from the game Metroid Prime. This musically illustrates what I think that may have been like. (Again, procrastination may have encouraged this piece!)

Listen  Ode To Obesity - 12.05.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Beginning Of The End - 08.05.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Basement Jazz - 07.04.2007
This is an instrumental (and slightly extended) version of the Basement Jazz Theme. See the Radio section.

Listen  Sax Quartet - 21.03.2007
Listen  Sax Psychiatrics - 20.03.2007
Listen  Satchmoo - 25.02.2007
This is an instrumental version of the vocal song. See the Vocal section.

Listen  Baron Von Boalch - 23.02.2007
This theme was written for a cartoon named Boalch. It was mainly a time-wasting activity during exam revision. Drop me an email for more Boalch features.

Listen  Basement Breakdown - 13.02.2007
Listen  Misterioso Piano - 12.02.2007
Listen  Lullaby (String Version) - 12.02.2007
Listen  Lullaby - 11.02.2007
Listen  Vamptastic - 29.12.2006
Listen  Choral Work - 28.12.2006
Listen  Zelda's Lullaby  - 28.12.2006 COMPOSER: KOJI KONDO
This is my arrangement for SATB choir of "Zelda's Lullaby" from 'Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time', originally composed by Koji Kondo.

Vocal (MP3 Format)

These files are all in MP3 format so should sound the same on all computers. However these files have been made by recording the MIDI files on my computer, then recording myself singing the track, finally recording both resulting MP3 files on top of each other into a third MP3 file - consequently the quality is not brilliant I'm afraid.

Listen  The Max Power Ballad - 03.11.2008
Using some of the sound bite files of Max left over from Basement Jazz I decided to create a sort of "Max rap". The song has all sorts of themes to it, including a hint of "Hyrule Castle" from 'Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker', and also a parody of a song by 'PE'Z' which is a Japanese jazz band whose songs featured frequently on Basement Jazz. Catchphrases in this song include such all-time favourites as "Bix my Beiderbecke!", "I'd love a little Mingus, baby!", "It was a balmy night and I was feeling Thelonious!", "What does a flange do?", and many more.

Listen  My Immortal Armour - 12.06.2008
A definite one-off for me this one: my attempt to write more of a rock song came out as a form of power metal - especially in the drum section. It is about how love has the effect of invincibility, I guess! I have to confess this is not the sort of song I'm used to singing :-S.

Listen  A Traveller's Psalm - 09.06.2008
Continuing the Christian theme here (don't worry, I'm not born again!), this is a folk ballad about a man who, when abandoned in the cold is taken in by Jesus, who has risen again.

Listen  In A Christian Way - 27.02.2008
A humourous attempt at a feel-good Christian song in the form of a fast-tempo Jazz piece. I particularly like the lyrics of this one, they work quite well.

Listen  Livin' Till The Day That I Die - 02.12.2007
I decided to do a rather downbeat blues song about how "life sucks" and so forth. Most of this song is instrumental - I thought I'd make my first attempt at a drum solo as well.

Listen  Freedom To Fly - 03.09.2007
This is a rather cheesy, uplifting pop song - no I wasn't on drugs when I wrote it although you could be excused for thinking so. I particularly like the bassoon part in this one.

Listen  One Man & His Dog - 29.08.2007
This is a very strange song! It's about a man and his dog who are the sole survivors of an armageddon caused by Iraq setting the world on fire somehow. This is also a sort of folk song.

Listen  Love Is Blind - 24.08.2007
I decided to try a kind of folk-ballad for this one - you may recognise similarities to Bob Dylan and also Nick Cave if you listen closely enough.

Listen  Neil's Song: The AQA Jingle - 18.07.2007
This a song written about Neil, the boss of the script-checkers at AQA. He's a rotund blob who wanders around trying desperately to fit in with the students but failing miserably. Rumours have it that he originally started off script-checking and has been working there ever since, now at the age of 30. It's also been said that his mother works for that branch of AQA too.
Note: This track is based on the song "Rio" by Duran Duran.

Listen  Bungalow Three - 19.05.2007
Ah yes! Bungalow Three! The third postgraduate bungalow at St. Aidan's College. Three crazy people lived here when I wrote this,
along with one fairly normal person. This song is for the first three - they know who they are!

Listen  Ode To Obesity - 12.05.2007
This was written with somebody in mind though I will not mention who; needless to say he/she is a complete pain in the arse.

Listen  Beginning Of The End - 08.05.2007
--THIS SONG IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE MOMENT AS IT IS TOO LARGE TO FIT ON THE SERVER--
This was written with a slightly more serious tone to it. Although it doesn't directly relate to me in any particular way, you may find some familiarity in its words. You might agree that the first few bars of each verse have a slight East Asian feel to them.

Listen  Satchmoo - 25.02.2007
This was written as a comedy duet for two of my friends at university, unfortunately they refused to sing it.

Radio Related

These are compositions for our radio show "Basement Jazz" that ran from March till June 2007 on Purple Radio, Durham University's student radio station. They are a mixture of MP3 and MIDI files.

Listen  B.J. Rap - 24.06.2007
The Basement Jazz Rap! This is obviously a joke (seeing as I know nothing about rap music) but was intended as light relief and a bit of variation.

Listen  Kongatitis - 26.05.2007
This was written merely as a short jam session between four of the characters featured in Sax In The Valley. The version used in the show was twice as fast as this so we could fit it in.

Listen  Sax In The Valley - 19.05.2007
This is the theme tune to the jazz soap opera that featured on the radio show - Sax In The Valley. It's a take on the BBC radio show "The Archers" theme with a jazz twist!

Listen  Basement Jazz Theme - 07.04.2007
This was written as the main Basement Jazz theme song though it didn't feature in the show till the second series. It's a catchy Jazz/Pop tune with quotes from the show in the background.

Old Songs (MIDI Format)

The following are all pieces I composed while still at school. I never finished half of them so this section will fill up slowly as I round them all off. Other than putting an end to them I've decided not to edit them at all, keeping them as they were when I wrote them.

Listen  Slow Blues Ground - 2003
Listen  Celebrelise - 2003
Listen  Baroque Time - 2002
Listen  Composition 1 - 2002 (Incomplete)
I had intentions for this piece to be really, really long but unfortunately I never finished it. I have left it without a proper ending.

Listen  Kaepora Gaebora - 2002 COMPOSER: KOJI KONDO
This is my arrangement of "Kaepora Gaebora" (The Owl Theme) from 'Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time', originally composed by Koji Kondo.

Listen  Super Mario Theme - 2002 COMPOSER: KOJI KONDO
This is my rather crude piano arrangement of the "Super Mario Theme", originally composed by Koji Kondo.
