The Texas State Guard is a part of the State Defense Forces, organized to maintain a trained military organization, capable of providing timely and effective response in times of emergency. The Texas State Guard replaces the Texas National Guard, when that force is placed on Federal Active Duty. Since its inception in 1941, more than 10,270 officers and 110,000 enlisted persons have served with the Texas State Guard. The importance of effective State Guard organizations is recognized by the Department of Defense which has actively encouraged all states to establish programs similar to ours in Texas. |
