Hi guys,
It's been too long since I was here last. I've been meaning to update it but I never seem to have time at all. And that's the truth. Between classes, work, reading, keeping in touch with people and having fun, I have NO time at all. I should probably be reading or doing some hw right now but I don't feel like it. So I'm taking that time to update you on what has happened these past 2 weeks. LOTS! :p Yup, It's been great!
So many things have happened and it'll take FOREVER to tell you guys everything so I'll just tell you the main events and stuff. *wink* My CH job didn't work out. They wanted me to work at Foggy Bottom after they had assured me I'd work at Mount Vernon. So I declined the offer since I don't want to be walking alone around DC three in the morning. I took the job at the Admissions Office so now when you call it, I might be answering your questions! The hours are during the daytime in between classes so it's not so bad. I have the weekends and nights free so that's a plus. And I get some pretty cool connections too so that's really nice. It's just a typical office job - reception, phones, filing (hopefully nothing will fall on top of me again!!) and data entry. But the cool thing is that we're responsible for next year's students. Quite a responsibility! I've worked 3 days this past week and it's been good.
I went clubbing again last week! :D That was definitely fun. 2 of Anna's friends were visiting from American University (which is also in DC) and so a bunch of us went out to dinner at Bertucci's. It was already past 9pm when we got to the restaurant and we were STARVING! The bread was sooo good! Yum! Haha...anyway, side-tracked a bit. I'm kinda getting hungry! :P So we walked down to 11th & F Street to this club called, "Tequila Beach." We heard that it was good so we decided to go and check it out. It was awesome! A long walk there but it was nice. It was 2 stories and the place was nicely decorated and the dj was awesome. There were a lot of college students there and these burly bouncers were there. So it was quite safe for us girls. It was hot there though. We were dancing there for about 2 hours and we were completely drenched with sweat. Another group of Hensley girls came and we danced with them for a while but we had to get out of there. We were getting really dehydrated. So we came out and was gonna take the metro when a cab pulled over. We asked how much it would cost and it was pretty cheap. $12 for the 6 of us. We got back to my room around 3am and Anna's friends were sleeping over. So we had our little slumber party. The cigarette smoke at the club was really bad though. I smelled and I had to wash my hair and shower. And still my hair smelled of smoke for a day. UGH! But didn't get to bed till around 5 and that was crazy. I got up after noon and headed for home. It was so nice to see Lynn and my mom. I got to talk with Lynn about her wedding the whole day. She's got a lot of things planned out already. It's gonna be June 5th at the Burmese monastery in Silver Spring, MD and then the actual ceremony in CA on June 18th. It's gonna be lots of fun and of course I'm one of the bride's maid and somewhat the maid of honor too. Well, officially, Aye is but I have some say too! :D And eating Burmese food was definitely awesome. I haven't had rice for a while so it was so nice. They cooked some special dishes for me. I loved it! :P I got to read some letters from my relatives in Burma and see some pix. They had sent some packages with Godfrey's mom who had just visited Burma. It's been quite a while since I saw their pix and that was a shock. They've changed so much probably as much as I have. But that was definitely crazy. I got to talk to someone who the 4 of us sisters had adopted as our big brother back in Burma too. He called from London and didn't even know that I was back. So we got to talk and it was just the weirdest feeling. The past was unfolding before me. Letters from my cousins and aunts, pix of them, some authentic Burmese food they sent and now it was our big bro who I haven't talked to in 3 years. I was only 10 when we used to hang out. He taught us how to shoot air rifle guns. So much fun! That was definitely a day of memories.
This past week was just hectic if you don't know my schedule already. But I was so glad when Friday came. I finished my Chem lab 40 minutes early so I came back to my room and got my stuff ready and headed to the metro station. I got back to Vienna/Falls Church around 6pm. My mom came to get me and we went to a family friend's house for their 5 year-old, Nady's birthday party. They had it in the morning but we were the special guests. Lynn and my mom had been there the whole day and they were waiting for me too. I got there and Aunty Sanda was making all this food for me. DELICIOUS! Nady had personally asked me to come too so I was so touched! She's so smart and so sweet. She seems like she's 7 or 8. And it's amazing. She's like a timeline! When we first got here, our families used to hang out a lot together. Aunty Sanda wasn't even pregnant with her then. Now she's grown up and...it's just amazing! But anyway...they had just adopted a little 3 weeks old kitten too. And he was the cutest thing. So playful, yet so lazy and sleepy too! He was tiny but his little belly was all swelled up and the cutest little thing!!! I was playing with him for a while. But after dinner, he wanted to sleep and I had him on my chest and he was just so cute. Trying to sleep in any positions he could sleep in. One time, his belly was up and his legs were up and he was still asleep. SO CUTE!!! I just love kitties! There was also a tornado warning that night for Falls Church/Vienna area so for a while, we got a little scared but it was nothing. The winds weren't that strong but the rain was heavy.
Anyway, the best thing this weekend was going down to UVA yesterday afternoon. Aye had to work till 4pm so we got there just in time as she got off work. It was sooo good to see her! We got to talk and chill but my mom and Lynn were there too. So it was a family reunion and we were so happy to see her. We went out to celebrate my upcoming birthday. Aye had been to this restaurant with a karaoke and she said we should go there. So we were driving on 29 and we didn't know where it was. She couldn't remember. We had to call Wynn and David in CA to give us directions cuz they've been there before. We finally found it. It was right off of the road and called "Bamboo House." There was only one lady working there. From what Aye says only she and her husband runs the place. Her husband cooks in the kitchen and she does everything else. AMAZING! The place was quite nice - cozy and a little formal. We had our dinner and then we sang karaoke in our private room. That was fun!!! The four of us sang so many songs - mostly old songs. All the good ones like, "Hey Jude," "Without You," "Careless Whisper," "Hello," "Endless Love," "Lady in Red," "Power of Love" and "Love Me Tender." And Aye and I sang "Summer Nights" from Grease. That was soooo much fun cuz we were acting it out too. LOL. "Summer lovin' had me a blast..." We were singing the whole night. We didn't get back to Aye's room till after midnight. Totally fun!! And today, we went out to eat some more at the Corner. Afterwards, we went around the Rotunda and all those peaceful and pretty places and took lots of pix. A beautiful clear blue sky day. I also got to see Meriem and Ify too so that was nice. I wanted to see more people but Meriem said some of them went home. And my schedule was kinda tight too so I didn't get to see anyone else. But it was definitely a fun trip and they'll have their fall break in 3 weeks too! I don't get fall break so they can come visit me here. Hehe.
So yup, we left around 5:30. I drove the whole way back to my dorm and it was really nice to drive my car too. A leisurely drive in the mountains and fields and forests. The traffic wasn't that bad. From UVA to my dorm, it only took 2 hours!!!! Amazing record time! And I wasn't even speeding...that much! :P No, but seriously, just normal driving. And now I'm back here and it feels really weird. I talked to Aye for a while just now and now I'm chatting with her on AIM but she's not here nor am I there. I just don't like these moments when you have to go back to your own schedule and do your thing and not have her around. But that's life. It's almost 11pm now on a Sunday night and I still haven't touched my books yet. I'm getting so lazy these days. Procrastination is not good!! This week will be crazy yet again. Sigh...not looking forward to it. But the weekend will be good. It's always good! Talk to ya late..err! *wink*

Time is...
Too slow for those who wait
Too swift for those who fear
Too long for those who grieve
Too short for those who rejoice
But for those who love...time is...
Eternity
Hours fly, flowers die
New days, new ways pass by
Love stays. ~ From the UVA sundial in front of the Rotunda. Great little poem from their 1968 graduation speech. |
