Synopsis: When his boss goes missing along with a heap of money, sadistic Yakuza member Kakihara (an excellently flamboyant performance by Tadanobu Asano) goes in search of him. Through his "interrogations" Kakihara learns that his boss was killed by a hitman known only as Ichi (Omori Nao) an extremely tormented individual who has been brainwashed by the manipulative JiJii (Tsukamoto Shinya) into believing he was picked on at school and now must get revenge on all the "bullies" by slicing them into tiny pieces with his razor blade-equipped boots.

This film has come under a lot of flak for being overly sadistic and glorifying violence. Personally I did not think any of it was extreme enough to cause this much outcry. Admittedly there is some pretty sick stuff here (the much talked-about prostitute mutilation scene for example) but it is all portrayed in such an over the top way that, in my opinion at least, it looks comical rather than disturbing. Overall this is one of the best movies I've seen from Takashi Miike
strongly recommended.
