Louisiana's  Gubernatorial Race

I could not have created a web page without providing my fellow Louisiana citizens a bit of information about the upcoming gubernatorial election.  I have a deep interest in politics and a strong opinion about my right to vote.  I cannot stress enough how important it is to vote!  My goal in creating this web page is to help undecided voters and/or intrigue others to vote.
The following is a brief summary of each of the candidates views on the key issues of the election. I hope this information will help you in your decision.

BOBBY JINDAL

He received a degree in public policy and biology from Brown University and received his graduate degree from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Jindal won the majority in the October 4, 2003 election with 33% of the votes.

  • Jindal  promises to make Louisiana more attractive to industries.  One way he proposed to reach this economic development, which would improve the job market, employment rates, and income per family,  is to  cut taxes on corporate investment and on state industries.
  • For better education for Louisiana's children, Jindal favors ACCOUNTABLITY. He wants to raise teacher pay to more competitive levels, expand those education programs that are proven successful, give incentives to teachers for outstanding performance in the classroom and student improvement and develop more alternative schools.
  • Jindal will improve our healthcare system by focusing on preventive, primary and outpatient care, widespread use of new technology to save money and improve outcomes, more affordable insurance plans for employers so that employees can choose a coverage plan right for them, less control over the system by bureaucrats and more control by patients and doctors.

This is only a very small portion of Bobby Jindal's ideas.  For more information on his views, visit his web site Bobby Jindal. com.

 KATHLEEN BLANCO

Kathleen Blanco will complete her second term as Louisiana Lieutenant Govenor at the end of 2003.  She received a B.S. in  Business from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Blanco received 18% of the votes in the October 4, 2003 election.

  • Blanco wants to improve economic development in Louisiana by forming a Louisiana Council on Science & Technology made of  businesses, industries, non-profit organizations, government officials, and academia.  She also advocates a strong link between economic development and the state's transportation infrastructure. She also proposes a business development group to promote Louisiana regionally, nationally and internationally as a business development location.
  • Blanco supports mandatory Pre-K education and technology resources for Louisiana public schools.  She also believes in ACCOUNTABILITY.  She believes teacher pay should be linked to classroom performance and skills. Blanco also wants additional education programs for adult students.  She also proposes the Louisiana Lifelong Learning Loans with low-interest and deferred payments for areas that most need skilled workers.
  • Blanco will improve our healthcare system by creating affordable insurance plans for small businesses and employees.  She will also create a policy recognizes that all Louisiana citizens have a right to basic healthcare and that the state has a duty to implement healthcare to the public in a cost efficient manner.  Blanco also believes that healthcare initiatives should focus on preventive care/wellness from an early age.

Again, this is only a brief summary of  Kathleen Blanco's proposals.  For more information regarding her views,  visit her website, Kathleen Blanco.com
