CALVERT CENTRAL - PAGE 11
UP THE HILL AND AROUND THE CORNER
MARCH 29-APRIL 7
[home]
UP UP AND AWAY - It's late Saturday afternoon, March 28, and the track has now expanded on very sparse roadbed along the east wall. COAL TRAIN A-CLIMBING - An Alco RS-3 has no problem pulling a coal train up the hill.  The caboose is on a 2.0 percent grade, the engine on a 2.5 percent.
NEW ENGINE ON NEW TRACK - A brand new Western Maryland GP40 poses with a coal train on newly installed track along the north wall. The curve is 72 inch radius (12 foot diameter) and the grade is 2.2 percent.
26 FEET TO GO - The Budd Car is only 26 feet from the door, and the track should be there by the end of the week.  It will exit the basement just above the door.
THE FINAL GRADE - The track will climb at a steady 2.6 percent along the west wall.  It's April 7 and the first 10-foot section of 2x8  is temporarily installed.  There will be a bracket every 32 inches hanging from the floor joists above.
8 FEET TO GO - It's April 10 and another 18 feet of 2x8 has been suspended along the wall.  I had to climb onto the layout to hang those last two brackets.
