Story:
Dark Side: After releasing the mysterious Ultimate Life Form, Shadow, Dr Eggman is invited to the Space Colony ARK, invented by his own grand father, Professor Gerald Robotnik. There Shadow reveals to Eggman the Eclipse Cannon, a weapon capable of destroying the entire world. But they need the seven Chaos Emeralds to charge the device. It is then they are interupted by Rouge the Bat who wishes to help them in their mission. All of them have secrets hidden from the others but this band of villains is bound to pose a serious threat to the safety of the planet.
Hero Side: Sonic is captured by a secret government organisation, GUN. After he escapes, he meets the person he was thought to be by GUN, Shadow the Hedgehog. After a brief confrontation in which Shadow shows off some of his talents, including Chaos Control using a stolen Chaos Emerald. Shadow then leaves Sonic on his own, but not for long as the police catch up with our hero. He is taken to the military base on Prison Island. There he is rescued by Tails and Amy. Meanwhile Knuckles in confronting Rouge. She is trying to steal the Master Emerald. Suddenly, Eggman appears to take the emerald for himself. At this point, Knuckles is forced to smash the emerald into many pieces. Now our heroes are assembled, but is it to late to defeat the forces of the Eggman Empire?

Sonic Adventure 2 was released on the failed console, Dreamcast, on Sonic's 10th birthday: June 23 2001. It was released simultaneousely around the world during this week. In Sonic Adventure 2 the main theme was rivalry. You could play through the game as either the good guys in the Hero Side, or the bad guys in the Dark Side. Technically you had to complete both sides to be able to complete the game and gain access to the Last Side, but hey-ho. The game featured an improved Chao Garden. Like in Sonic Adventure, you could download Chaos to the VMU in which you played through a mini game called Chao Adventure 2. A welcome addition to the game over the original was a reward for getting all the emblems. As well as lots of extra multiplayer characters and costumes, you actually got to play through the Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive/Genesis!
