Sonic 3D was seen as SEGA's response to Nintendo's Mario 64. Sonic 3D: Flickies Island was released on the Mega Drive about a week before Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64. It was a puny attempt to satisfy the Sonic fans and thus recieved not many good reviews. It wasn't so bad, infact, once you got used to the difficult controls for the isometric platformer it could be quite fun. But the damage was done. It had many good background musics, my personal favourite was the second boss's music! Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn was a rush release to replace the cancelled Sonic Extreme. Sonic Extreme played like Bug a popular game of the time. How do I know what Sonic Extreme was like? Have I, like many others, read countless reviews and previews of the game? Well yes. But I have also played it! Well a demo anyway! At the time I just thought it was Sonic Jam. At this time I hadn't played Sonic Jam before and knew little about the game. However, I eventually realised (about four months later) that the Sonic World section of Sonic Jam was not set in such a big stage nor did it have acts, or was it dark in the sky. BTW I (Egg Robo) actually played the game in a 'GAME' ( for you who don't live in the UK, that is a videogame shop :) ). Alas, this is a summary of Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn not Sonic Extreme. Sonic 3D Blast didn't have any extra level features except more detail and a really good special stage. Sonic 3D Blast on the PC is a kind of a medium of the other two incarnations of the game. It has a different special stage which is probably the easiest of all to win. Unfortunately, it has wierd system requirements which means that a lot of systems can't run the sound (mine included).
