| Everton faced a replay of one of their pre-season friendlies in this 'David versus Goliath' Worthington Cup second round tie. The Blues cruised to a comfortable victory on a night that history was made. Second half substitute Wayne Rooney became the youngest ever goal scorer in the illustrious history of Everton Football Club. Rooney had terrorised the Dragon's defence with his pace and power since he arrived in the game in the 63rd minute and the 16-year-old scored two good goals when he twice found himself one-on-one with the Wrexham 'keeper. All this after Kevin Campbell had given The Blues the lead in the first half after a wonderful through ball by Li Tie. On his eighth appearance for Everton he had finally got the reward that his impressive displays deserved. Many years from now, the Evertonians lucky enough to be there on that cool autumn night in North Wales will tell their grand children, "I was there the night Wayne Rooney scored his first goals for Everton." |
