The Collection
The Curriculum Materials Center maintains a collection of materials designed to support the research and educational activities of the faculty, students (undergraduate and graduate), and staff of the School of Education. The collection includes:
Textbooks and Supplementary Materials:
To complement the collection of state-adopted textbooks available in Davis library, the CMC houses ancillary materials for these texts. Also, the CMC collects additional textbooks and related materials. Subject areas include: English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Foreign Language, Music, Counseling, Art, and Health. In addition, the CMC collects materials to support other programs in the School of Education.
Audiovisual Materials:
Laser discs, videos, music cassettes and compact discs, books on tape, and records may be borrowed for classroom use.
CD-ROMs and Other Software:
The CMC collects stand-alone software and those that support specific textbook series. CD-ROMS are kept in the library office and can be checked out with the assistance of a staff member.
Special Library Collection:
The CMC collaborates with faculty members, local educators, and various School of Education programs to create and loan special collections. For example, through a PDS partnership, several area high schools received vocational education materials on extended loan. Musical instruments were acquired in collaboration with the Music Department for use by School of Education students. Also, several collections are available in-house in the areas of Educational Leadership and Gender Studies.
Juvenile Books:
This collection includes picture books, easy readers, chapter books, biographies, and non-fiction selections.
Big Books:
Over 120 English and Spanish big books are available.
Manipulatives:
An extensive collection of math, science, and language arts manipulatives is available. Examples include Unifix cubes, base ten blocks, thermometers, measuring tools, vocabulary cards, and sentence strips.
Posters, Floormats, Workmats:
These ancillary materials are housed in a vertical file and arranged by subject area.
