Home Visit Two nurses from the Maternity Case Management program at Martha Jefferson made a house call two days after we left the hospital, to check on both Ella and Catherine. They even lugged in a big scale so they could weigh Ella again. The nurses told us that they're satisfied so long as babies don't lose more weight by the two day check-up (they usually lose roughly four ounces per day those first couple of days in teh hospital). But Ella weighed 6 lbs, 12 oz, so she had gained 4 ounces back since we'd gotten home, which shows that she's healthy and that breastfeeding is going well.
One of the nurses went into the other room with Catherine to check her perineal area because Catherine did have a tear during the birth (it went so fast she didn't really have time to stretch properly!), and when she came back in the room she announced, "She's Superwoman!" To which I responded, of course, "You aren't telling me anything I didn't already know."
