As well as being a solo composer, I play in a band as well, called Unemployed. It is an experimental rock 2-piece group, consisting of myself and Jesse Woolaston, an engineer for Cochlear. The mix of my traditional music training and his engineering background produces a highly original and unusual fusion of music and sound.

Our big breakthrough was with the smash hit The Jellybean Song. It's catchy tune and offbeat nature made it an instant hit among all those who heard it. Unfortunately due to copyright reasons I cannot put it up on my site at the moment, but hopefully there will be a recording available in the next few months.

When we write a song, there is no "process" as such. Neither is it a typical jam session - it is more a moment we share when our ideas, strange and useless on their own, combine to create something truly special. The nature of this writing technique means we have composed only a few songs in the time Unemployed has been together, since 2001. However, we are hopeful for the future. I see this project more as a Christmas cake that needs a month to soak to acheive its full potential, rather than a cheap microwave burrito done in 60 seconds.
