Flute Experience
I have 18+ years of flute experience (since 1990), including jazz, classical, pop, competition, and 10 total years of private lessons. I played piccolo and first and second flute in the Pepperdine University Symphony Orchestra from 1999 to 2002 while taking private lessons on a music scholarship. I teach beginner through intermediate/advanced students from a home in Laguna Hills, CA, during the evening hours.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching flute lessons since 2001 and really enjoy working with kids (but adults are welcomed too). See below for some of the documents I use during lessons (assignment sheets, breathing exercises, etc.). References are available on request.
Fees for new students
Private, one-hour lesson: $40
Private, half-hour lesson: $25
Group lesson (two to four students, one hour; availability varies): $25 per student (great for siblings!)
How You Can Start Flute Lessons
E-mail [email protected] (see link below), and we can set up a free consultation lesson, during which we will get to know each other, play a little on our flutes, and decide how to proceed (if I'll be teaching you, which days/times work best, etc.). Download and fill out the flute lesson student information form below and bring it to the consultation. I will give you the rest of the pertinent information (phone number, directions to my house) over e-mail.
Your child may be ready if he/she can sit still and listen/interact for 20-30 minutes and can be disciplined enough to practice at least 3 times per week. I have taught children as young as 7; for a student that young, we start with a "trial" month of lessons that are 15-20 minutes long.
Current openings as of 3/09 (half-hour or hour slots):
Mondays 6:30-7:30
Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Other time slots may be available on request.
