Enchanter's Promise
By Richard LeBlanc

Chapter Ten

Within the lair of the troll wizard Wart Fang - Enchanter was having difficulty finding anything of actual use. Most of the items and things that were floating in jars were nothing more than things the wizard kept for snacks. The books he found were filled scribbles and doodles and nothing of noticable use.

"I know that he has a spell book. Every wizard with a brain has one." he muttered as he sat down on a chair. It was then that he looked at the ugliest painting of a female troll that he had ever seen. He felt a shiver run down his spine as he forced himself to look away.

"This Wart Fang character doesn't strike me as the indirect type. He didn't hide his book with his library of scribbles and drawing - he didn't store it with his - uh - food." he muttered as he looked at a jar full of human eyes and calmly moved away from it.

"So if he was going to hide something - it would be in plain sight..." he began as he reluctantly looked over at the painting. He quietly grained and shook his head.

"If you aren't dead - I will make you wish you were - god that thing is ugly." he muttered as he walked over towards the painting. Hhe did his best not to look at the hideous creature as he carefully removed the painting from the wall. He then dropped it and looked at the small hole in the wall that was behind it. Within it were dozens of scrolls - parchments written in blood - a tome that was wrapped and bound with flesh - and several other documents as well.

"It was worth the nightmares that painting will cause if what I seek is in here." he reassured himself and he began to remove all of the items out from the hole in the wall.

A great deal of time later - Enchanter had gone through most of the scrolls. Although some of them did have useful spells on them - they did not have what he was looking for. He had read through the book that was bound with human flesh - as grusome as it looked - what lurked inside was far worse.

"What a sick little monster this Wart Fang was." he stated as he lifted one scroll up. As he did - a small folded note fell from the scroll and landed on his boot. Enchanter looked down at the note and hesitantly picked it up. He unfolded the paper and was almost paralyzed when he saw a sketch of the woman's face! And below the face were the words Dreaming Djin.

"It's her. What would this little worm be doing with this?" he asked himself as he began to unroll the scroll. He looked at the alien language on the scroll and then looked at the picture again.

"I will get answers." he stated strongly. He quietly chanted. As he did - the alien language began to become readable. He then slowly looked at the scroll and studied every word.

"Read these words - and I will...come..." he whispered. he felt himself being thrown from his chair and into the wall. he fell to the floor and drifted into deep unconsciousness.

The darkness began to lift away. Enchanter slowly looked at his hands. They were the hands of a child. he was going to speak when he looked over and saw himself on an alter of corpses. The Lord of the Pit was getting ready to sacrifice him. He screamed out to stop the demon. he tried to make him vanish - but nothing worked. He watched as the dagger slowly went up. Just then a bliding flash of light errupted from the sky. the lesser demons and minions scurried away. Enchanter slowly looked up - and saw her. he watched as the woman floated down to the ground and stood before the larger demon.

"What kind of fool game are you trying to play here?" she demanded.

"Mind your own business Tydiss! the boy is mine!" heretorted.

"I disagree. You can not have this one." she retorted. Enchanter watched as Tydiss conjured up weapons of light where as the demon conjured up his fire whip. he watched the fierce battle and saw Tydiss beat the Lord of the Pit back.

"The boy belongs to me now. Come for him again - and you will perish. Go!" she ordered. The demon hissed at her and then vanished into the shadows of the dark. Enchanter then watched as Tydiss seemed to get younger and younger until she was the same age as the boy secured to the altar.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"I'm scared." the young Enchanter replied.

"You'll be okay. I'll get you home." she replied as she effortlessly broke his bonds.

"I can't see." Enchanter whispered.

"I'll make it better." she replied. she slowly moved her hand over his eyes. Enchanter watched as Tydissplaced her hand on the boy's cheek. Enchanter touched his face. He could feel her hand.

"You're pretty." he whispered.

"Thank you. I'll get you home." she replied with a wink. In the blink of an eye the scene instantly changed to that of Enchanter's old bedroom.

"Do you want to be friends?" Tydiss asked.

"Yeah." the young Enchanter answered.

"Then promise me - promise me that you won't forget me. Promise me that we will be friends forever. Promise me that you will find me." she whispered as the sun began to rise.

"I promise..." he answered quietly. Tydiss vanished like a shadow before the rising sun.
