When the puppies are born they are all color coded with their weight recorded daily then weekly after the second week. From the 3rd day of life to the 16th I do early neurological stimulation www.breedingbetterdogs.com/achiever.html
Puppies are raised in my kitchen literally underfoot and are introduced to everyday household living as soon as they are able to walk. With each litter I try to locate as many interactive toys as possible, things that move, sing chirp etc. I use regular household items such as low stools, buckets, sono tubes and any such items that they can walk over, under or through. I hang rice filled pop bottles, wind chimes, bells and toys directly over the outside exercise area so as to cause further interactive stimulation of the puppies minds.
From the sixth week on I try to do some initial house training and if they are having relatively dry nights then they will be introduced to sleeping in closed crates prior to leaving here. By this time they have been given their first vaccination and several dewormings.

Although my test is slightly different this one does give an accurate picture of what we do. The testing is done separately, one by one with each puppy in a location where they have never been by a person they have never meet. This ensures a true reaction to how the puppy will react away from the pack protection so that we can gage their confidence level, degree of social attraction, degree of sensitivity etc.
What is a Microchip?
A microchip is a very small computer chip, about the size of a grain of rice that contains a unique alphanumeric code that is specific to that chip. The Microchip itself maintains an exceptionally long lifespan that far exceeds the life of the animal and can be read by scanners/readers now being used by most shelter, humane societies, and veterinary clinics.
Why do I Microchip all of my puppies?
All purebred dogs in Canada must be uniquely identified for the purpose of registration prior to leaving the breeders premises. This is not just a CKC rule; this is CANADIAN LAW as stated in the Animal Pedigree Act.
Microchips are not only an acceptable form of identification for both CKC and AKC registration but also provides a permanent means of identification that will not fade or be lost over time as can occur with a tattoo or ID tags.
I personally use the Avid brand microchip, which is registered through CKC with CANADACHIP, a lifetime 24-hour emergency recovery service. Owner and breeder information can be accessed immediately through the recovery database associated with the microchip if a lost pet is located.

What are CKC registration papers and why are they important?
It is CANADIAN LAW as stated in the Animal Pedigree Act that no dog maybe sold in Canada as purebred without being registered with the Canadian Kennel Club or as with rare breeds directly registered under the Animal Pedigree Act.
CKC registration papers are your certification that your new puppy is a recognized purebred Golden Retriever. If someone offers to sell you a purebred dog with no papers for a cheaper price THIS IS NO BARGAIN. If you make this purchase you more then likely have bought from a person who does not mind selling you a dog under false pretext. What else may they not have been straight forward with you about?
These types of breeders are only concerned with making money. Rarely do such persons do health checks on the parents so they have no idea what genetic time bomb may be waiting to pop up with no consideration for all the associated vet bills and emotional pain you might later encounter. After all they now have your money and won't be there for you in the future if/when a problem arises.
PLEASE MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE! Purchase only from a reputable breeder who stands behind their dogs or from a reputable breed rescue.
