July 21th Race #6
Pre race notes July 19, 2002 (1:40PM)

Wow...it's going to be a hot one...in the upper 90s.  I'm not sure I will join two claasses, but if I do then I will only do one heat race in Trophy Dash instead of two.

Race Prep
Since Race 5, I've decided to drop my Main Jet size down from 98 to 96 (dynojet)).  I predict the hot temperature will lower the air density; hence, lowering the jet size might help.  In other words,  98  would make the bike  run too rich.  I could be wrong.   I changed my pipe to the twin-stinger since the track setup this weekend is the Esses.  The twin-stinger is a sweet mid range pipe with a little more torque than the Toomey Racing.

I will report back on Monday. Hope to see you out there.
What a kick ass weekend.....(read I got my butt wupped)

Like before I joined 2 classes, Novice Supersport and Trophy Dash.  It was not as hot as I expected.  It was in the upper 80s and peaked in the lower 90's by the end of the day.  My effort to adjust the jets  didn't seem to help because I think my engine is on its' last leg.  I was getting passed only on the front straights.  I had no top end power.

The Esses is a horsepower track.  If you don't have it then you might as well forget about winning.  I  thought about that all weeknd.  I figured why not have fun today and get them at the next race.  I worked on my lines and shiftting.  I felt smoother going into and out of turns.  At some turns I carried more corner speed to compensate my lack of power just to keep up with the lead pack.  I was dragging the guards on my boots and sliding my tires.  I was so comfortable on the turns I lost concentration and accidently put my knee down on the shark teeth which tore my right knee puck off.

I can' t complain even though I manged an 8th place in both events; I kept it on two wheels all weekend.  I'm taking  2 weeks off work and  and didn't want to spend it in a hospital bed.   My brother Joe stepped it up and kept it on two wheels too.  Though, I have to point out one off road excursion he managed to save  in front of me during the 2nd heat race in Super Sport.    I think that was the only time I beat him.  Down the straights he would pull me and had killer starts.  I would catch him in the corners.  The secret to the Esses track is a good start.  There are really no passing corners, so the position you obtain from the start is probably where you'll finish in the end as long as you have a fast bike down the straights.  Blah blah blah...man did iI go on.. I'll end it here and put pics from my MiniDv later.
