Aug  18th Race #7
Pre race notes ......... Well I got off my butt after the wupping it took (in Race #6) to get my engine rebuilt by DP Racing.  You didn''t think I was going to rebuild my whole engine by myself did ya?  So I get the bike back on August 15th...just in time for the race. I gottta hand i t to DP because he was also trying to prep his son's GSXR600 race bike for Willows that weekend.  Thanks Dave.  Any who....

Sat Practice:  I get my back in time but didn't have time to go to Saturday's practice.  I spend the day at home and broke in my new engine around town.    I am running the Toomey Racing pipe instead of the Calamari.   The Toomey has more top end and figured it would be good for the
Modified Perimeter track configuration.  On the advise of my tuner, the 96 jet was replaced with the 98 jet.  Apparently I was running the bike to lean.

Sunday Race Day:  I am excited to try out my new rebuilt engine.  I pack the night before so when I wake up I can just put on my sweats and get to the track early.  It was lucky that I left early because The scooter guys were invited to race this weekend.  When I got to the track there was only one spot left in the pits.  My brother Joe arrived half an hour later.

Now down to the nitty gritty.   The temperature was in the low 90s today.   The track setup was Modified Perimeter where we ran two heats at 6 laps and 8 laps for the main event.

I am finding that I don't even know how well I did after the race.  I am so focused during the race that I forgot the details. Hmmm....  Is it that I am focused or that I am getting older?

I can tell you that in Novice Supersort,I finished 7th in the main event and 5th in  Trophy Dash.  The rebuilt engine rocked and the guys who were passing me on the straights before could not.  I made them work for it in the corners.  During the 2nd heat of Trophydash I low sided hard off a turn which took the fight out of me in the Main Events.  I can't say enough about the bike's performance.  I'll get them the next race.
