The third factor is global competition.  The United States has always been a competitive country when it comes to space travel, and this is no exception.  NASA and the Department of Defense have created programs such as the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) Demonstrations and the DARPA FALCON project.  The DARPA FALCON project is a United States Air Force run project that hopes to develop and demonstrate hypersonic technologies that will help facilitate quick global reach missions.  This could also have commercial space and transportation applications.
The fourth factor is the U.S. spirit of invention and innovation.  We as a nation always want to have the latest and greatest technology at our fingertips, and these commercial space flights are closer and closer to becoming a reality.
