Satellite communication, remote sensing and space transportation together hauled in about $477 billion of the $517 billion that the entire commercial space industry made.
Remote sensing was created when Congress enacted the Land Remote Sensing Commercialization Act, which was focused on opening up the commercial market for the utilization of space. Within two years, Frances satellite SPOT-1 overtook the United Statess LandSat because of the higher image quality.  This act was updated in 1992 when Title II was added to encourage use of remote-sensing satellites US companies.  Remote sensing is divided into three basic groups, satellite systems, aerial imaging and value-added products and services, for instance programs such as Google Earth and other geographical information programs.
